Book Description

"Red Riding Hood has been retold a number of times, but this is one of my favorites..." - Megan McConnell

A planet-wide conspiracy is waiting at Grandmother's house...

"Always wear the red hood and cape while you are in the forest," Grandma admonished.

For a teen with purple and red hair, and an attitude to match, the small claustrophobic city of Oburos grows ever smaller with Uncle Travis's attempts to take over her and her mother's life.

An invitation to visit Grandmother's house, nestled among the giant trees filling the planet, gives Kate a welcome respite. But, there is no time for rest. A conspiracy among the forest inhabitants, moving trees, and other mysteries await her at Grandmother's house.

Kate learns just how little she knew of the forests, much less its animals. To survive she must learn fast, and that includes trust and teamwork.

And just where was Grandma, anyway?

A science fiction novel retelling of the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" by J.A. Marlow.

"It's been a long time since I've read a book cover-to-cover; Into the Forest Shadows is quite the page-turner. The blending of science fiction and classical fairy tale is very, very well done, and the titular Forest has a character at once its own..." - Daniel H.

"The world building itself is fascinating I love the history that goes into this world." - Melissa Corbett

5.0 out of 5 stars fast paced, great read, not for small kids April 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the story of a girl who visits her grandmother in The Forest and meets the wolf and is (sort of) rescued by a woodcutter. But then it also isn't. It's far more than the traditional fairy tale ever was, and it's in no way aimed at small kids. I would place this as YA and up. Also, it is a great and fast paced story that fans of social SciFi will love just as much as Fantasy fans. The world, and especially the forest, is surprisingly well thought out and a crucial element of the story.

Once you pick this book up, you don't want to put it down! It is very imaginative and interesting, without being typical. You never know what will come next! I very much enjoyed the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read May 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Absolutely enthralling. Ihave read this classic fairy tale many times as a child, and many more to my own child, but this is the first time I have seen it done for adults.
The characterisation is spot on, but we have come to expect that from Marlow. this author has yet to let her fan base down in this department and all others with her unique story telling.

More About the Author

It's said I was launched into space from birth and I haven't been back to Earth since.

There might be some truth in that.

As a reader I love science fiction with great plots, interesting characters, exotic locales, all accompanied by a sense of wonder with optimistic endings. As a writer, I love the same.

I love to visit with other science fiction fans, so come on by and say hello.
