Lost in translation?,
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Intoxication (Audio CD)
Shaggy returns to dancehall for this album, and although the rhythms are infectious and the lyrics typically risqué and funny, it may be difficult for non-West Indian listeners to understand his Jamaican creolese.
Here's a guide to the tracks: 1. Can't Hold Me: Serious song about being true to yourself, your friends and your beliefs, as well as establishing and defending your boundaries and standing up for your rights. 2. Bonafide Girl: Third single with Rik Rok and Tony Gold about fidelity. Personal favorite. 3. Intoxication: Title track and possible single. Naughty song about the after effects of too much alcohol, his woman's best friend and some whips and restraints 4. Those Days: Interesting sample of "Those Were the Days, My Friend" by Mary Hopkins. This track features Na'sha. 5. More Woman: Naughty song about infidelity 6. Woman Scorn: Funny song about getting caught cheating and trying to wriggle out of it. 7. Mad Mad World: Song featuring Sizzla Kalonji and Collie Budz. A commentary on the state of the world - crime, false prophets, white collar crime, nuclear weapons, welfare, Medicare, ethnic cleansing, politics and "polytricks". 8. Out of Control: Features Rayvon. Naughty song about getting lucky 9. Church Heathen: First single, and tongue in cheek commentary about one-day Christians, who appear pious and god-fearing on Sundays, but misbehave for the rest of the week. 10. Wear Di Crown: Typical Shaggy song featuring Mischieve about high maintenance beauty pageant contestants 11. Criteria: Mr. Loverman states his requirements in women 12. Body a Shake: Extremely naughty song about getting lucky 13. What's Love: Akon features on this track, which is the second single from the album. This one is about finding an excuse to leave somebody to free yourself up to play the field. 14. Holla At You: Shaggy's pick-up lines 15. All About Love: Reggae love ballad, with the word "love" used about a zillion times. Reasonably good album, but without a mega-hit. For real Shaggy hits see his albums "Pure Pleasure" (Oh Carolina); "Boombastic" (In the Summertime, Boombastic); and "Hot Shot" (It Wasn't Me, Angel) Better to buy the singles, especially if you don't speak the language. Shaggy goes back to his roots on this album. This is way better than Clothes Drop.
Great tunes like Bonafide Girl, More Woman, Church Heathen, Woman Scorn and of course another collaboratio with his parring P Rayvon on Out Of Control. Great album.

Shaggy has had great singles over the years. However, since I am not a fan of Reggae style music I have never been interested in puchasing any of his albums. That is until "Intoxication". I believe this is his best album. My favorite tracks are "Bonafide Girl" and "Mad Mad World". Check 'em out!

Not worth buying,
This review is from: Intoxication (Audio CD)
I am very dissapointed with this album. There are a few good songs like Bonafide Girl and Church Heathen that was previously released. It also rediculous that a great song - Reggae Vibes was only included on the Japanese release. You are better off buying a few songs unless you wait a few weeks when you will probably be able to buy a used copy of this for $3 or $4.

What the heck is this?????,
This review is from: Intoxication (Audio CD)
I'd like to know what language this is. I don't think I can get past the 2 songs I have tried to listen to because he's speaking in tongue I think. What happened to the early days when he did songs like "Angel" that were so cutting edge and unique?
