I purchased this lunge whip because it was recommended as an idea for a dog toy for very active dogs by trainer, Victoria Stillwell, on her show, It's Me or the Dog. She suggested you tie a stuffed dog toy (very securely)to the end. We use a fox with a water bottle inside rather than stuffing. It holds up better outside and Buddy loves the sound. You can then swing it around over your head for hours with very little effort (especially for those of us with limited mobility) and tire out a dog who needs a lot of exercise. A great way for children to play with their dog also. An unusual use for this product to be sure, but it is Buddy's absolute favorite activity.

This is a very good size whip - the horse definitely can see it and it's long enough that you can flick it and the horse will pay attention. It makes a good whooshing sound when you flick it so the horse can both see and hear it for motivation. It's just what I needed and the price was reasonable.

I bought this whip to use as a flirt pole for my 15-pound dog. It works very well. I just tie the end of the whip around a toy and wave it around. My dog loves it!

I know that the description states the length, but I was confused about the size. It was a lot bigger than I expected. The pole part of the whip is about 5 1/2 feet long, with 1 foot of that being the black handle. Then the rope part that hangs from the whip is another 6 feet. So the total length from handle to end of whip is almost 12 feet. I hope this helps some people who, like me before I bought this, have never seen a lunge whip. The pole part is flexible and bends when a dog is tugging on the toy but snaps back straight when released from pressure.

After hearing many people on dog related boards talk about making a dog chase toy out of a horse whip and a stuff toy, I decided to give it a go. This lunge whip is the perfect length to get a good wide circle with my large dog without being to long to get make it diffiicult to manoever. It has stood up to my dog when he did catch the toy at the end ( was like shark fishing! ) and its very easy on the hands. Its a good quality whip, having used them for their orginial purpose years ago when I use to work with horses.

The pros : Cost...very inexpensive given the quality
the end has a loop that you can attatch a toy or foxtail
Perfect length with out giving up control or getting tangled.
Fast delivery!
Cons...none

I have a wonderful Borzoi who is an avid hunter that will just be for a companion yet he still loves to play and to run. This whip is perfect for tying a stuffingless fox to the end and letting it dance around in a circle as I play it for the dog to chase. My Borzoi loves it and plays catch as he is very good and can catch it. I tied it on so if tugged and caught it would break loose so the dog could have the reward of the 'hunt.' Of course, this is a perfect lunge whip too, but I no longer have my horse. Thank You Intrepid for this lovely light and balanced colorful lunge whip.

This is a great product to use in dog training as a flirt pole. You can make a lasso-type knot for a lure at the end of the whip and easily insert, tighten, and remove/exchange the lure. This product is strong enough to withstand puppy biting. I'm using it with a Standard Poodle. This setup is also useful for exercising your dog.

I too bought this as a “flirt pole” which is used for training and/or to give dogs exercise. I myself purchased it to give my big dog more exercise. This works absolutely great! Light weight and flexible so it’s easy for me to control. My dog weighs about 115 lbs now so when I played tug-o-war (which he luvs) he’d about give me whip-lash since I don’t weigh quite as much as he does, and he’s sooo much stronger than I am. Duh! With this he chases a “knotted rope tug” I’ve cinched to the end. It already has a tightener on it so I didn’t have to add anything. At first I just used a couple long socks which he liked, but he likes the replacement knotted rope better now.
I have a lot of large and heavy Kong toys for him which he loves, but these are too heavy for the whip in my opinion. Too dangerous, loss of control and may wear the whip out sooner than later(not sure). It’s holding up great and we use it a lot. He’s getting more exercise and I stay out of traction. Ha!
I’ve read not to use this on pavement unless it’s always dragged on the ground to prevent joint damage to your dog from jumping. I use this on the lawn and usually just drag it across the ground with maybe a couple of jumps in so far. He tuckers out after about 10-15 minutes and that’s good enough for both of us. It’s a great work out for him. Make sure you let him catch it once in awhile or he might lose interest. Anyway, that’s what I do for my dog. I don’t let him have it too long though. I tell him to drop it and give him a simple treat. I had to do this in the beginning because he wasn’t very good at “drop it.” Now he’d rather chase so it’s really easy. I’m really happy with this low cost investment. I would have paid much more. My dog is getting some really good exercise and is much happier/healthier because of it.
