DISREGARD THE OTHER REVIEW ABOUT THIS CD AND PICK IT UP,
By
This review is from: Intrige of Perception (Audio CD)
After reading the other review for this CD, I had to do a reveiw for HYPNOS 69. I also grew up on the Hard Rock sound of the 1970's (inc. lots of great German Krautrock bands) & I too am a big "Stoner Rock" fan, and believe me there are alot of bands to choose from nowadays. The majority of them sort of have the same kind of sound & feel. But there are some who break the mold of what is called "Stoner Rock" and HYPNOS 69 are definitely one of the few. The formula they follow is their own, actually labeling them as "Stoner Rock" is a huge injustice to the band and very misleading, but since everything nowadays needs some kind of label I guess that's what they get stuck with. They are super talented musicians who write and record some excellent music, they use vintage equipment. It's nice knowing that a band of this caliber is around writing and recording music, unfortunately promotion for bands is non existent which is why I am writing this review. Do yourself a favor and pick up all HYPNOS 69 CD's. If you need to check them out first go to Youtube there are quite a few clips of them and you can see for yourself how good they are. You can find their CD's cheaper elsewhere online and believe me it will be well worth it. Their music on "The Intrigue of Perception" is a lot more than just "total average stoner rock". The band is super talented and they write excellent music.

Too Highbrow For My Tastes,
By Nasty Bob (Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intrige of Perception (Audio CD)
Let me first say that this is a band whom the critics have seriously raved. I guess I wish I would have paid closer attention to the details of the reviews, because this just simply is not for me.I am a huge fan of Stoner Rock, not so much the doom side of things, but definitely the bands who have taken their direction from the Hard Rock guitar sound of the 1970's, the era which I proudly grew up in. My problem with Hypnos 69 is that there is just an abundance of finesse with very little firepower. If these guys know how to rock it just doesn't seem to be evident on their cds (not on the two expensive ones I purchased anyway)- the album meanders along all the way to the end, never taking off. I will be honest in saying that I obviously misunderstood what I was getting into here, but I suppose that is the purpose of these reviews. If You are strictly a fan of progressive rock, then You may indeed have high praises for this band. But if You are looking for something that "rawks", or has some bite You may want to reconsider. There is just nothing here (for my tastes anyway) that I'd put the volume past "3". Music is a funny thing. You either "get it" or you don't. Are these guys brilliant musicians? Certainly I'd give that to them. Do they reach me on the inside where it counts? Nope, sorry. |
