Stellar Clawhammer Debut!,

Adam Hurt has put together a fine album of old time music, featuring clawhammer banjo. He's got great technique, and a wonderful sense of rhythm. His playing is firmly rooted in tradition, but already showing signs of stylistically moving beyond the expected. The back-up playing, especially on the guitar and banjo duets, is also top notch. This is an extraordinary debut for an 18-yr. old player. If you like old time string band music--with the banjo up front--you'll love this recording.

Adam Hurt provides a remarkable blend of technical skill, feeling, and creativity on this album. The banjo playing is superb (mainly clawhammer) and the choice of material excellent. There's not a bad tune in the bunch. If you are an old time enthusiast this will provide a great deal of enjoyment. If you are new to this type of music it provides a good introduction. If you are a banjo player, you've got your work cut out for you!
