Entirely enjoyable, February 22, 2010
This review is from: Introducing Aunt Dimity, Paranormal Detective: The First Two Books in the Beloved Series (Aunt Dimity Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't really know how I stumbled across this book, but I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I have only read the first book so far - very convenient that the second in the series is contained in the same volume! We learn about Aunt Dimity throughout the course of this book following her death. Lori, the central character, has lost her mother who told her the Aunt Dimity stories as a child as though Aunt Dimity was a fictional character. Lori finds out that Aunt Dimity actually existed and travels to her cottage in England to uncover the whole mystery of Aunt Dimity's life with a little guidance from Aunt Dimity herself (won't spoil that bit!).... Without revealing too much, I can say that this is a light read for anyone who wants a little magic, a little bit of a ghost story and a not too tangled plot with thoroughly enjoyable characters. I am looking forward to more in this series.

LOVE this Series!, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Introducing Aunt Dimity, Paranormal Detective: The First Two Books in the Beloved Series (Aunt Dimity Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
I first stumbled on one of the Aunt Dimity books at my local library and quickly became entranced. I then went to the start of the series and read each story in order. With each book, I came to like the series more. Humerous, witty, evocative of a world I think most of us would like to inhabit, these stories in turn make me laugh, cry and reflect on my life when they provide a peep of insight I need. I am now in the process of purchasing these wonderful books so I can always have them handy when I want to visit a dear friend.
The two stories in Paranormal Detective are the first two books in the series and provide a perfect introduction to the main players in the series. Once you accept the concept of Aunt Dimity and her connection with Lori, you fall quickly under her spell. If you enjoy light hearted, cozy-type mysteries, I highly recommend the entire series. They are each a true delight!

WONDERFUL, HEART-WARMING STORIES, April 4, 2011
This review is from: Introducing Aunt Dimity, Paranormal Detective: The First Two Books in the Beloved Series (Aunt Dimity Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
So far, the Aunt Dimity mysteries (I've read three now and have already ordered two more!) get the highest marks from me. First, they are grammatically very well written. I hate a good book that is hopelessly marred by horrific grammar and glaring errors that should have been caught by a good editor. I usually wind up tossing that kind of book in the secondhand bin before I'm through reading the first chapter.
Second, Nancy Atherton is a truly gifted writer. She can lull the reader into an elusive state of bliss. You know the one. The one that makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. The one makes you think of hot cocoa, toasted marshmallows and cuddling up in front of a glowing hearth. The one that can make you yearn for a yesterday you may or may not have actually had, where life felt safer and people always had your back.
You know the blissful state...the one that makes you feel like "God is in his Heaven and all is right with the world." Nancy Atherton does all this and still keeps you enthralled with the latest mystery in which her characters are embroiled. These are characters that you will come to not only like, but love.
If you are looking for a hard-core mystery filled with violence; if mysteries of the blood and guts ilk are your cup of tea, do not look here. If, however, you want a heartwarming, fast-paced, attention-riveting mystery, one that leaves you feeling like a contented cat after a bowlful of cream, these books are for you.
KUDOES!!!
