4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad.., January 7, 2000
This review is from: Introducing Beats, Fills & Solos (Drums and Drumming) (Paperback)
I've been a drummer for about a year, then I bought this book as I wanted to learn more fills and different beats. The Solo's don't sound very good (i.e they're not really awe inspiring or anything) but there are some really good beats and fills. Not enough solo's for my liking. The book's good for beginners as there are some pretty simple beats and fills there too. I wish I'd had this a year ago myself as I picked up most stuff I know by ear. In summary the book's good, but I just wish there was more. But for the price it's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for beginners, April 30, 2011
This review is from: Introducing Beats, Fills & Solos (Drums and Drumming) (Paperback)
I purchased this book back in 1994 and helped me get in touch with other genres beyond rock. It covers Rock, Blues, Funk and Jazz, and for each of them the author includes grooves, fills and solos. Quarter notes, eights notes and sixteenth notes are used.

The beats are useful and can be effectively used in every-day playing and the notation is big and easy to read, and a CD to hear all the exercises in the book is included too.

Don't expect to learn to solo in odd times or in the style of Dave Weckl or Steve Smith; in fact, the solos presented are -little- variations of the grooves presented pages before but grouped together in 16 bars lenght, but they are a very good introduction and inspiration for total beginners.

Yes, it is for beginners, but it's good. It shows a variety of beats (don't you get sick of playing the same beat), fills (the fills are NICE), and solos (beats + fills).

Buy it.
