3.0 out of 5 stars Music Captures The 1950's Mood
..This CD captures the 'mood' of the early 1950's,especially with the help of Bill Elliott's orchestra.--Wendi Williams'vocals are pretty good throughout..Bill Elliott's first 'soundtrack',this cd will most likely introduce the B.E.S.O. to a lot more non-jazz music fans. 3-and 1/2 stars.

I bought this soundtrack shortly after the "movie" came out in 1999 and I still love it. It's a great cd for anybody who loves vocal jazz & swing music. I'd like to find more cd's made by Wendi Williams, who sings all the vocals on this soundtrack, she has a wonderful voice. The arrangements are also great. This cd is fabulous!

1.0 out of 5 stars The real Dorothy doesn't sing one note on this disc, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Introducing Dorothy Dandridge: An HBO Original Movie Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Although she will be forever remembered as an actress, Dorothy Dandridge spent most of her life singing, and what is a real shame is that the film "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" comletely ignored her real recordings and brought in Wendi Williams to cover her tunes. This is what is offered here - Ms. Williams rather than Ms. Dandridge.

Often when an artist's life is more well-known than their talents, bio-pics will do this - the absolutely terrible 1990 bio-pic "The Josephine Baker Story" did this as well, and brought in theawful Carol Dennis (ex back-up singer for Bob Dylan) to fill in for the real Baker, as did 1987's "La Bamba", with Ritchie Valenz's real recordings replaced by someone else's voice. I do not know why so many bio-pics have done this - perhaps it has a alot to do with legalities, but it is nevertheless very dissapointing. "Ray" gave us the real Ray Charles, "La Vie en Rose" gave us the real Edith Piaf, and "What's Love Got To Do With It" gave us the real Tina Turner. So why didn't "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" give us the real Dorothy Dandridge?

Their could have been an incredible opporunity here to bring to light the real Ms. Dandridge's marvelous voice, but instead we get someone else!

I'll pass this one up and buy another disc that offers the real thing.

Wendi Williams did an excellent job singing as D-D(Dorothy Dandridge)! Even though they don't sound alike in any way, but, she matches Halle Berry's voice. This is a great soundtrack! If you buy this item, you won't be sorry.

Wasn't as great as I thought it would be, I enjoy a few of the songs but most of them don't really "do" it for me. Enh!

Being an Elmer Bernstein fanatic, I bought this cd. THe thing I didn't know when I bought it was that there is only six minutes of Bernstein's score on it. The rest of the music is fun to listen to, but I really wanted more Bernstein music. I wouldn't buy this cd brand new.
