5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! Found the book extremely useful., November 5, 1997

This review is from: Introducing Microsoft Windows CE for the Handheld PC (Paperback)
Robert O' Hara has truely done it with this book. The depth of information countered with the simplicity of explanations results in a book that is both a great learning tool for the novice as well as a useful reference work for the experienced user. There are a number of things within the book that lead one to a thorough understanding of the Windows CE operating systems and accompanying applications. Throughout the book there are shortcuts, tips, and explainations of the operating systems. Step-by-step instructions provide a useful guide for newcomers, while advanced topics are included for the more technically astute. Most enjoyable is including of the numerous easter-eggs within the Windows CE operating systems and applications. These are great to show friends and family when they ask, "So, just what does that $600 organizer do anyway?" I found this book useful in both learning the operating more thoroughly as well as developing an understanding of the systems shortcomings and features. I only hope he writes another one for Windows CE 2.0 that's as thorough and well written as this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for users new to the Windows enviroment., June 7, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Introducing Microsoft Windows CE for the Handheld PC (Paperback)
The eye-catching cover yields to make the forager for WinCE books. It starts with a realistic scenario, and goes step by step into the CE world. Every built-in program is covered in here, and even some third-party software/hardware. It is a good book for newbies, and for people who know a bit about Windows 95, 3.x, etc., (the Windows CE OS is pretty self-explanitory) there is a share of advanced things. The biggest downfall is that for the many people who use Windows CE for compatibility (and know the Windows 95 enviroment,) it is a bit too basic. And, for people having 3-4 years of Windows use, there is really nothing REALLY important in this book. Overall: Good introduction of CE books to the shelf.

This book provides a good description of Windows CE 1.0, as well as a tantalizing look "under the hood".
