Another great blowing session,

This review is from: Introducing (Audio CD)
This record is a well recorded blowing session that we saw so frequently on Prestige or Savoy. It was originally on VeeJay. I remember when I first got the lp. I was really excited to get it. I got another record with most of the same players. The record was called "Young Lions" and had a picture of lions on the front cover. This is not like the Wayne Shorter records of the 1960's on Blue Note where Wayne came into his own as a first rate jazz composer. The compositions on his Blue Note records were very memorable and really separated Shorter from the rest of the jazz tenors out there. This record also does not have Shorter's arrangements that were so prominent in Art Blakey's Jazz Messangers. As I was saying earlier, it is another blowing session, but it is really very good. All players are doing a good job and it is well recorded. Pick it up if you can get a good price on it. |
