This review is from: Introduction to IP Address Management (IEEE Press Series on Network Management) (Paperback)
While there are books describing DHCP and DNS, network engineers need to understand both the big picture and the gory details of assigning and managing IP address space. Tim uses realistic scenarios to explain this complicated topic. For example, company mergers, networks that are geographically dispersed, etc. He also compares different methods (e.g., for allocation) for different scenarios, and what the pros and cons are for the various choices. Following the example of a fictitious organization makes it easier to understand the concepts presented, and how these concepts are applied in the real world. The figures and illustrations are very helpful for understanding the text.Tim is an industry expert whose conversational writing style and use of humor make this technical book less dry and easier to read than most technical books. Tim has done a terrific job in breaking this complicated subject into appropriate sections, and then chapters. The sections lead one into the next in a way that makes sense. It's important that he has detailed chapters on DHCP and DNS, with an IP management perspective. Yet, someone with a lot of DHCP and DNS knowledge can jump from Part II to Part V if they're anxious to cut to the chase of IP Management practices. It's also great that the book includes both IPv4 and IPV6, since many companies are starting to include IPV6 address spaces into their existing IPV4 networks. There are reference appendices, enabling the book to stand on its own.

After reading this book, IT definitely gives you a clearer understanding of how IP address management works and also teaches you some DNS/DHCP along the way. A must read. Highly recommended.
