Editorial Reviews

Review

"The text is very readable and assumes no prior knowledge of bryology..."
S.L. Timme, Choice Magazine

Book Description

This book is a richly illustrated introductory text summarising and explaining recent advances made across various aspects of bryophyte biology. No prior knowledge is necessary, making this ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, as well as amateur botanists wanting to understand the fundamental aspects of bryophyte morphology and diversity.

This is an attempt to make contemporary aspects of the science of bryology easier to swallow than the more serious work by Goffinet and Shaw, called "Bryophyte Bryology." It would be better to either get a general text, like the excellent text book by W.B. Schofield, "Introduction to Bryology" or else get ready to sink your teeth into "Bryophyte Bryology" (second edition) from Cambridge University press.

This is an excellent book for the undergraduate student interested in learning about bryophytes. The chapters cover the basics, so if you are a grad student looking to brush up for general exams, this is a great book for that purpose.

It is exactly what the descrption says it is...a stepping stone to more serious literature about Bryophytes. This is an excellent book to decide whether or not whether the reader is interested enough in Bryophytes to warrant spending the time and money getting more serious text on the subject. Excellent book and a number of good micrographs in it.
