Product Description

In the spring, California's rolling hills, green valleys, and coastal slopes are colored with wildflowers treasured by both residents and visitors to the state. First published more than forty years ago, this popular guidebook has helped thousands of amateur and intermediate wildflower enthusiasts learn the names of the flowers located in some of the state's loveliest and most accessible areas--from below the yellow pine belt in the Sierra Nevada westward to the coast. Thoroughly revised and updated throughout, it is now easier to use and more accurate--the perfect guide to take along on outdoor excursions in California and surrounding regions.
* Includes 244 new color photographs and 102 detailed drawings
* Now describes more than 400 wildflowers emphasizing the species most likely to be encountered in the state today
* Plant descriptions now include more detail, helpful identifying tips, and locales where flowers are likely to be seen

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for spring again!, June 18, 2008
This book is exactly as described and what I wanted. After a trip to the Channel Islands where great precautions are taken to keep the environment as natural and pristine as possible, I developed an interest in California's flora and fauna. This book along with some other natural history guides has given me a new perspective on living in Southern California. It is a wealth of beauty.

4.0 out of 5 stars CA Spring Wildflowers, September 1, 2009
By TimberrockRanch (Red Bluff, CA) - See all my reviews
We own ranch property in Northern Ca and I became interested in learning more about identifying wildflowers on our property. Very nice photos and organized by the color of the bloom. A nice presentation and reference volume. However, not every flowering plant is a wildflower...botanists also classify many as "weeds" which then might not show up in books like this. If you haven't found it already, I highly recomend the website [[...]] as a place to search for what grows in your particular area of CA. For example, a global search for Tehama County yields about 950 species of trees, flowers, weeds and grasses.
