5.0 out of 5 stars Cataloging for the 21st century
This book will get any media specialist ready for the important changes in cataloging. I took the course in the 90's but so much has changed and this book truly gets you ready for the world of automation and technology in the 21st century.

Arlene G. Taylor is very detailed and knows her craft!

2.0 out of 5 stars BORING
Like other books by this publisher, this book is boring. I am graduate school and was required to read this for my cataloging class. There has to be a better way to present this information. This did not provide ay additional information than what is in the AACR2. Therefore, it is unnecessary to use this book in the grad school courses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 29, 2011
This review is from: Introduction to Cataloging and Classification (Library and Information Science Text Series) (Paperback)
I found this book extremely helpful while obtaining my MLIS. There are plenty examples- and it comes with a CD for further assistance. Please note though that this is more of a guide book. It does not do the cataloging and classification for you.

:Update:
I will continue to say that this book is still helpful. While my job does not entail cataloging, it allows me to know when a mistake is made and a record needs to be updated. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in LIS.

Great resource. Much more functional than many of the texts I used in library school.

Required book for grad class. I would not have bought the book if it wasn't required for the course because cataloging and classification is automatically provided to the library from Marc records and other resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good reference for librarians who classify and catalogue different documents, September 10, 2006

This is very comprehensive works for classification and catalogue of documents, including intenet resources. However, one new concept--FRBR and its recently research had hardly reviewed, maybe the author has not enough materials, though this new concept and model had been suggested for eight years. The othor regret is about the classification, the work reviewed detailedly about DDC,LCC,but hardly reviewed about the other classifications, which use languages other than English.I think the researcher in the apoch of Internet should have a global perspective, not just limited in the only one country,or only one language world(eg.English).I hope the next edition can be improved in these respects.
