This review is from: An Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students (6th Edition) (Paperback)
This book saved me in my college-level intro bio class. I hadn't had chemistry, but decided to take the class anyway. This gave me the basics that I needed to support what I learned in my text and class, and it provided excellent review material at the end of the semester. I found that the systematic approach to building concepts very easy to understand, and the question/answer format made the material easy to remember. I would recommend this book to any student who is taking a biology class that is heavily rooted in bio-chem who does not have a strong chemistry background.

Good study guide for basic chemistry concepts,

This review is from: Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students (Paperback)
This book of 207 pages is compact and well organized. It provides a very basic overview of chemistry concepts. It covers general concepts of Inorganic, Organic, and Biochemistry. Basically this book is set up like a work book that the student goes through. Answers are given right by the questions so there is no flipping back and forth. It does a fairly good job of also incorporating general biology concepts. It contains reference illustrations such as the periodic table and the electron transport chain plus numerous others. I would reccomend this book to biology teachers at the high school level who desire to teach more chemistry in biology or who are teaching a combinded chem/bio class

This book saved my life!,

This review is from: An Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students (6th Edition) (Paperback)
My biology professor recommended this book to help us refresh our knowledge of the chemistry needed throughout the course. It is well written and covers all necessary information. It has a student friendly format which helps you retain the information as you work your way through the book. If I hadn't had this book, I would have been more than a little confused. Happy reading!

One of, if not, the BEST school books I've ever owned throughout my life,

This review is from: Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students, An (9th Edition) (Paperback)
This book is the BEST!! it's format is extremely easy to understand because it tells you what you need to know and then right after it has fill in the blanks about the concepts it covered so basically it tell you something, then has you answer a question on the concept to help you remember it. HIGHLY recommended for Biology students...I'm really struggling to understand my biology course because the first 6 chapters of biology deals with chemistry so this is a life saver.

A good book for review,

I enjoy reading up on the sciences, and periodically I review my anatomy-phys, chemistry, physics and mathematics. I found this book and decided it would be a good way to review both organic and inorganic chemistry.
An introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students is a superb book for review. It is in the time honored programmed learning format first developed and widely used in the 1960s. Each page has a small bit of information and questions based on it with answers to the questions immediately available in the margin of the page. With immediate feed back the student learns about and corrects their mistakes before moving on to the next bit of information and its questions. The book covers a lot of ground: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry. Obviously in a book of only 287 pages, and with much redundancy and reinforcement, none of the topics is discussed in any depth. It is a good review but no substitute for a more detailed text on each of the categories.

This book helped me a lot in understanding complex sections in chemistry usually covered in biology. I am a nursing major, and I find this book very helpful in the following classes (prerequisites): Human Physiology, General Microbiology, and Chemistry (Chemistry for Allied Health Majors). I let my friend barrow this workbook and she told me personally that it is easy to read and very effective in teaching concepts...
This book summarizes in a very informative and interactive way Chemistry concepts that will sound foreign for a non-chemistry major. Very good and very concise. It's worth the price.

This review is from: Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students, An (9th Edition) (Paperback)
Before buying this book you need to know that it is set up entirely as a test review; questions with answers only. No explanations are given for answers or even a review of basic concepts. If you want a refresher on basic concepts this book is not what you are looking for.

This is one of the best educational books I have ever come accross in my entire life. The answers are on the side of the page that you are doing the questions. He teaches by asking. Its a perfect book. More than 5 star!!

This review is from: Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students, An, ePub (9th Edition): Media Update (Kindle Edition)
I'm sure the bound book is easy to read and easy to use. The Kindle version requires you to move back and forth between questions and answers. If you accidentially hit the wrong key, you go back to the beginning of the chapter or the next chapter. Plus, the Kindle version does not have the Periodic Table included --(it's in the front cover of the bound book) -- what chemistry book doesn't have a Periodic Table? Kindle textbooks are probably good for English and history but not for chemistry.

This book is clearly written and well organized. It presents concepts in language that is easy to understand. The diagrams are clear. The book leads you thorugh complex topics step by step as you answer the text questions. I disagree with the reviewer who stated that this book is only for review once you know the material. This book presents material and then tests your understanding of the material. You should cover this book in order from Chapter ONE through the end as later chapters build on material learned in previous ones.
If you need a text to teach you basic chemistry for a Biology class, you can't go wrong with this one. |
