This book should be in the hands of every Christian who takes their faith seriously. John Lawson, who was educated at Cambridge University (England) and taught church history at Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia), has created an easily accessible book that covers all the essential topics of faith in a clear, understandable manner. It's a book not only for professional church leaders such as pastors or educational leaders, but for the every day person who simply wants to understand "the faith". It could easily become a "handbook" for quick reference on a variety of topics, due to the fact it is arranged in a quite concise manner. Written from a Wesleyan/Arminian viewpoint, it would be informative to those of different theological stances as well, simply because it is composed as a straight-forward systematic theology. On issues in which there are widely divergent viewpoints, the author makes a real effort to examine, in a fair way, the principle views in evangelical, protestant mainstream, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican traditions, while strongly supporting an historic evangelical position. He deals with Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Arminius, Wesley, as well as later theologians such as Tillich, Barth, and others.

I originally purchased a copy of this book some 25 years ago in a seminary bookstore, and it became so worn with use that I was happy to find that I could obtain this new one from Amazon.com. To many, it might seem an unknown book, but it deserves a much wider audience.
