5.0 out of 5 stars A"Must Have" Christian Writer's Companion
This book is indispensible for the apprentice Christian Writer. If you hear the call to write as a Christian Writer this is the book to spiritually and technically get you going in the direction that God is calling you. If you can't afford joining the Christian Writer's Guild's two year course, Ethel Herr stands in as your mentor and guides you through the learning...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Discouraging Book
I was severly disappointed in 'An Introduction to Christian Writing: An Indepth Companion to the Complete Writing Experience' by Ethel Herr. Oddly enough for someone who is supposed to have a Christian viewpoint, Ms. Herr seems to totally discount inspiration of any kind for a writer. Perhaps that's why I found her writing to be uninspired and uninspiring. She insisted...

This book is indispensible for the apprentice Christian Writer. If you can't afford joining the Christian Writer's Guild's two year course, Ethel Herr stands in as your mentor and guides you through the learning process, developing your disciplines and skills. Everything you need to get going as a Christian writer is in this book. Her exercises and assignments really work your writing muscles. Buy your Christian Writer's Market and this book...you will be good to go. I highly reccommend this book for every writer's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sincere Review (this is not for fluff), February 17, 2006

This review is from: An Introduction to Christian Writing: An Indepth Companion to the Complete Writing Experience (Paperback)
Ethel Herr's book is the most inspiring instructional book I have ever read - on any subject.

Within just a few pages, she somehow becomes personally involved in the reader's development as a writer. Her overview on "What is a Christian Writer" really does go to the heart of writing as an art form, what it means to be a writer, and understanding the impact of your work. Most of all, I appreciate the integrity of her work and the simplicity with which she writes. She emphasizes that a writer's craft must be developed with a heart for truth and sincerity as well, no matter what you write; and that you must take responsibility for what you produce.

I've gotten more out of a few sections of her book than I did taking a writer's course. It is something to be experienced, not merely read.

Thank you Ms. Herr.

very helpful material - not necssarly with a Christian focus, but rather on the semantics of writing. Gave good ideas for organizing thoughts, publiations for the aspring writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Help, January 16, 2007
This review is from: An Introduction to Christian Writing: An Indepth Companion to the Complete Writing Experience (Paperback)
I have been struggling with writing something that I believe God called me to write. This book really helped me look at the reasons as to why I am writing from a completely different point of view. I highly recommend this to anyone who believes they have been called to write, but are having hardships or difficulty starting at the beginning or getting to the end. It doesn't tell you how to write - but it inspires you to let poetry drip from your tongues like honey! If you are called to write for Him...you have one heck of a duty on your shoulders.

As a novice writer this has been an invaluable resource. For the person that wants to improve technique in a practical way, Ms. Herr has included assignments to complet to use the skills that she discusses. Very worth while the time and effort to read and complete.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Handy and In-Depth Guide for Any Writer!, January 28, 2005
This book showed me things that I had never anticipated in a Christian writing book. I expected another boring textbook on the craft of writing, but I was taken by surprise! Ethel Herr's thoughts are deep, original, and honest. She provides an excellent foundation for writers to build on. This book is a must for any Christian writer!

I found this little book to be very helpful. It covered what should and shouldn't be done and the cliche's to avoid like the plague.
