Simply a great book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Introduction to Classical and Modern Test Theory (Hardcover)
I, too, studied measurement theory using Crocker & Algina's work as the textbook some years ago. The authors have done an admirable job in presenting the information necessary for a solid foundation of the topic covered, while at the same time writing in such a manner as to make it readily accessible. Personally, the sections on standard setting and bias were particularly lucid and interesting. I cannot recommend it more highly, and if planns go well, this book will likely be used when I teach a measurement course in a year or so.

Great measurement text,

This review is from: Introduction to Classical and Modern Test Theory (Hardcover)
I have this book which was required for a measurement course I took. It is a very comprehensive guide to measurement theory. Required reading for all people who must use and interpret measurement data or who develop measurement instruments. I would love to see a new edition come out for this much loved classic text.

Excellent book, but needs updating,

This review is from: Introduction to Classical and Modern Test Theory (Paperback)
This book is an EXCELLENT graduate-level treatment of measurement and test theory. Crocker and Algina have a very readable style that makes test theory and the accompany statistics nonthreatening. Their chapters are all strongly grounded in the history of psychometrics and the reader always has a sense of how various approaches and theories were developed.
The only downside is that the text is a little dated. Although the 3rd edition was copyrighted in 2008, there have been no revisions to the text since the 1980's. This isn't a big problem on the classical test theory chapters, but more modern chapters (such as the item response theory chapter) need updating. As a result, many of the issues that have arisen in the past 20 years are not treated in the book. But it's a great reference... definitely a keeper!
