Book Description

1596934522 978-1596934528 October 31, 2008 2
Focusing mainly on the engineering aspects of communications electronic warfare (EW) systems, this thoroughly updated and revised edition of a popular Artech House book offers a current and complete introduction to the subject. The second edition adds a wealth of new material, including expanded treatments of two critical areas - RF noise and the effects of signal fading. Extensively supported with over 700 equations, this authoritative resource details the components, systems, and operations of electronic warfare systems dedicated to protecting and attacking military communications networks. The book offers a complete understanding of how modern direction finders for communication signals work, along with their limitations. It shows how to measure performance and define the basic operations necessary for communication EW systems. Professionals learn how to identify state-of-the-art EW technology and gain a solid understanding of basic EW processes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive textbook on the engineering aspects of communications electronic warfare systems, December 11, 2008
This review is from: Introduction to Communication Electronic Warfare Systems (Artech House Intelligence and Information Operations) (Hardcover)
Today wars are fought with more than guns, tanks, and bombs. They are also fought with computer chips, electronics, telecommunications, and satellites. Now in a newly updated and significantly expanded second edition, "Introduction To Communication Electronic Warfare Systems" by Richard A. Poisel (Senior Engineering Fellow at Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Arizona and formerly the Chief Scientist at the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey), is the definitive textbook on the engineering aspects of communications electronic warfare systems. This newly revised edition is enhanced with the inclusion of a chapter on jamming performance over fading channels and is supported with more than seven hundred equations. Covering such diverse issues as the components, systems, and operations of electronic warfare systems; modern direction finders for communication signals; hyperbolic emitter location technologies; geolocation of low probability of intercept/antijam targets; and expert commentary concerning the future direction of communication electronic warfare systems, "Introduction To Communication Electronic Warfare Systems" is an essential and core addition to professional and academic library Military Science, and Contemporary Electronics reference collections and course studies reading lists.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and overhyped, December 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Introduction to Communication Electronic Warfare Systems (Artech House Intelligence and Information Operations) (Hardcover)
The content of this book is OK. It is clear that a great deal of research and thought was invested in it. However, most of the information presented is open source and can be found with just a little bit of google-fu. As a SIGINT commando and EW expert, I can really only rate this book 3 stars considering the price. $150 is incredibly expensive and almost laughable.
