Book Description

August 1, 2004
For the first time, this comprehensive tutorial brings together all the information required to design and build a successful radio controlled Hovercraft model. The book introduces the construction of Hovercraft models and the concept of their operation. Written by two leading authorities in RC Hovercraft design, Kevin Jackson and Mark Porter take you through both the theoretical and practical aspects of the design and construction process. Covering design, construction techniques, materials, motor selection, radio systems, electrical wiring and craft operation it addresses some of the common difficulties experienced by newcomers to RC Hovercraft. The book includes a detailed step by step guide to skirt design and assembly, and the process of lift fan design and construction. Generously illustrated with photos, 3D cutaways and diagrams, the principles are explained in theory and shown at work on real models. Setup and operation of the finished model are discussed along with some of the unique challenges of controlling the craft. The book offers the experienced or first time modeler an opportunity to get started in the rapidly growing part of the RC hobby. Part plane and part boat, this unusual craft offers a whole new experience and this book is an ideal companion when venturing into this new field of radio control models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I needed, August 15, 2008
By
Steve (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Introduction to Radio Control Hovercraft (Paperback)
I wanted to find out how to design and build my own model hovercraft and this book had everything I needed. There are details about the design of the body of the craft, motors to use and even how to connect up the radio control. The most difficult bit of the design of hovercrafts is the bag skirt and this book has details on how thats done that I couldn't find anywhere else. Highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Radio Control Hovercraft Book Review, June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Introduction to Radio Control Hovercraft (Paperback)
Overall the book provides a good review of R/C Hovercraft. The introduction of some formulas for computing air flow, size of motor or size of craft may only confuse a novice. The info on placement of the R/C and motor components was helpful. The best advice would be to buy a R/C Hovercraft Kit first, get familar with it and then buy the book.

Having become interested in how hovercraft work, the next step was to figure out how to make a model. This book provided me with everything I needed to know. And the author has a web site with kits available that I will recommend to my friends!
