Leaves something to be desired,

This review is from: Introduction to Econometrics (3rd Edition) (Addison-Wesley Series in Economics) (Hardcover)
I used this textbook for an econometrics class. Many of the concepts were explained with too much math/symbols, and not enough intuitive understanding. It would have helped to use move visuals to improve comprehension. Also, there are some typos in some of the formulas and math, so verify the author's work while you read!Leaves much to be desired... I was lost in the lectures, so this book got me through some of the concepts, but it could have been better. (In comparison, for a previous stat course I used the book 'Statistics' by Freedman, which used excellent visuals and graphs to really drive the points home.)

The book is terrible. It is hard to understand. There are not enough exercises and the book doesn't have (as many other economics books do) the solution to most of the problems. I would ask the professors that teach this course the check out other options before suggesting this book to their students. The used version (when I bought this book) was not cheaper enough and forget about renting it, if you bought it at least you could get more money back when you decide to resell it. Compared to other economics books this is the worst to teach such an important topic. Only buy it if you must do it.

Clear, Well-Written,
This review is from: Introduction to Econometrics (3rd Edition) (Addison-Wesley Series in Economics) (Hardcover)
I found this book to be very well written and easy to understand. And in comparison to other textbooks I have used for economics courses that are packed with mathematical formulas (sometimes the majority of pages in a chapter are just equations) I find the mathematical concepts in this book to be very well explained. I like the questions and I think they are set at just the right level. The author refrains from using mind-numbing jargon where possible and that is much appreciated! The answers aren't in the book but you can easily get answers to odd numbered questions from the publishers website. One thing that would have made the book a little better is if they perhaps had had an appendix or two with commands using common stat software like STATA or Matlab.

Considering for Adoption,

I'm a professor considering adopting this book. I am responding to the concerns of others that answers to problems at the back of the book aren't available. Answers to all odd numbered problems (except for the empirical problems) are available on the textbook's website, which is free.

Definitely adopting,

I teach econometrics at a top 10 liberal arts college and this text is the way to go for advanced undergraduates. Skips the aspects of OLS that should be skipped in my view (such as a plethora of tests for heteroskedasticity) and covers, very well in my view, the issues at the heart of empirical econometrics as it is practiced -- panel data, MLE, probit/logit, IV, analysis of experimental data, potential outcomes, regression discontinuity, etc.

Bad examples, poor explanations,

I am using this book for my Econometrics class in college, and I have been very disappointed. As a student trying to learn from the book, it is very frustrating with the poor quality of explanations. There are no answers to the practice problems as well, making it hard to study for exams.
