Intro to Electronics 4E,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Introduction to Electronics 4E (Hardcover)
I am using this book for a class. I have found it very useful for someone who has never been exposed to this material. It is a great text book and it doesn't assume that the reader knows very much. THings are broken down and illustrated profusely. Chapters are short and sweet, with lots of reader-exercises to drill and check material comprehension. Scotty/Sioux City

Good for newbies,

I feel that this is a good book for newbies. It teaches electronics from ground up. There were a few chapters that should have been placed else where in the book though. Other then that it was great!

I've been forced to use this text and its accompanying lab book for the past two quarters in school and I have NOT liked it. The only thing you can learn from it is vocabulary terms.I would swear this book was written by more than one person. Some chapters explain things somewhat clearly and have relevant accompanying pictures and diagrams, while other chapters consist solely of random, disorganized facts thrown at the reader. Some chapters include actual problems for the student to work on while others have no problems at all. The editing is extremely poor. Should a 5th edition book *still* have spelling errors in it? Also, there are sentences that are just flat-out wrong and which should have also been corrected several editions ago. The lab book is even worse. It is rife with errors and often just repeats writing down vocabulary terms, a complete waste of lab time. Skip this book if you can. There are FAR better introductions to electronics out there. I recommend those written by Stan Gibilisco, David Bell or Mitchel Schultz.

This book needs better formatting/editing. It often works through examples that are referenced in a chart/diagram on another page.I am a Junior Mechanical Engineering student, and the book tone seems a little "dumbed down" for an academic science class, this book works well for those in tech programs that only need to touch on electronics.

This book was nice and simple, not over stressing anything. However it has quite a few mistakes in the formulas(it is the 4th edition, It should have less than it does).Good book to learn from however.

I bought this book to place in my personal library as a reference book. I was very disappointed as this book deals with electronics at high school level and is not in depth in any of the topics .Will have to donate it to a secondary school or vocational school .

I used this book for my Introductions to Electronics class, frankly I liked it since we didn't go into details on a certain thing in class. Except for the final, I had to do something to which wasn't explained in detail in this book. Frankly, this book is an "OK" book for anybody wanting to just look at the tip of the iceberg of the worlds of Electronics since this book focuses on introduction to Electronics on a single spectrum instead of focusing in-depth on a certain subject. Just can't say for sure on whether or not this book is worth the $100 if you aren't using it for a class, since the book is basically like 4 semesters of Electronics pushed into a textbook, non-detailed at certain areas. I would say another book detailing on a certain area in Electronics is more efficient than this book if you want to learn about the in and outs of Electronics.
