An excellent text to ease you into accounting,
This review is from: Introduction to Financial Accounting (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
Accounting is the type of subject that can ramp up quickly in difficulty, and this text plots a nearly perfect learning curve in getting the reader well-grounded in the fundamentals. I purchased this text as a requirement for a course, but it is a definite keeper and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone interested in learning about accounting.

Very good resource,
This review is from: Introduction to Financial Accounting (Charles T Horngren Series in Accounting) (Hardcover)
I'm CEO of a medium size business and wanted a resource to teach me accounting. This is a great book, with plenty of assignments which fully reinforce the lessons. The only disappointment is that there are no solutions and the publisher only gives them to you if you are a registered teacher.

As a first year accounting student this text provided to be very useful in all aspects of my course. Although textbooks are required so this review won't move anyone to buy it, students can be assured this text is not a wasted purchase.

NYU's Stern School Of Business uses this book and its a well-crafted introduction to financial accounting. While taking accounting at the other New York business school, I deep sixed my assigned accounting book and instead borrowed my wife's. It coverage of topics and pedagogical flow are quite approachable and manageable. Struggling friends begain to purchase it for themselves. An excellent book. An interesting book as well. Case examples and references keep things interesting. Not just dry rules.

Great book for Engineers,
This review is from: Introduction to Financial Accounting (Charles T Horngren Series in Accounting) (Hardcover)
This book was part of our text for the MBA program. Being an Engineer having no background in Accounting, this easy to understand book has been very helpful. The chapters build upon one another. One topic naturally leads to the other. The practice problems at the end of the chapter are very good for cementing the learning. The book is scattered with lots of real life examples and problems representing real companies. Buy this book with the solutions manual.

This review is from: Introduction to Financial Accounting (Charles T Horngren Series in Accounting) (Hardcover)
This book makes financial accounting pretty interesting, is easy to read, has good definitions which I think is hugely important for introductions to academic fields, and is organized pretty well.
Note: It is not about how to do private or business tax accounting, but rather the fundamentals of financial accounting and financial statements as a whole.

Used at Kellogg School for Financial accounting course. This book balances simplicity and complexity of accounting very well. Many real-world examples and tons of exercise problems are provided to reinforce concepts better. I would highly recommend this book to anyone new to Financial accounting.

This review is from: Introduction to Financial Accounting (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
My review is based on the 9th edition. The book does provide the basic ideas about financial accounting. However, it is not very good for self-study.
There are some cons about this book that prevent me from giving it more stars : (1) No answers/no solutions to any of the end-of-chapter problems. So, you cannot test yourself and see if you understood the concepts properly. There is no students solutions manual for this book. If you are lucky, you can get an instructors manual from your instructor. (2) Not enough sample problems in each chapter. Generally, 2-4 problems only. Not enough, considering point (1). (3) At some places, the author uses uncommon words and verbose passages to explain concepts. They confused me sometimes. (4) It does not mention how some accounting ratios are used in the real world and whether one must make decisions based mainly on a lot of ratios. It is difficult to understand and appreciate the basics of accounting by reading only this book. An alternative to this book is Financial Accounting by Libby. It uses a lot of pictures to illustrate concepts, which this book does not. Again, libby's book has no answers in the end, but its contents are presented in a better way.

pretty nice, wonderful for learners.
Though I hate the instructor of Financial Accounting, I love this book. The price is worthy.
