Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Introduction to Geography, Second Edition is built around three themes: the belief in the interrelationship between humans and their natural environment; the philosophy that many basic principles of human geography can be studied and demonstrated locally; and the idea that geography is dynamic. From this perspective, Bergman and Renwick give students the tools they need to understand current events, decide where to live, seek or build a career, and inform their own political opinions. The text also embraces contemporary issues in geography such as environmental change and adaptation, and gender justice. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

About the Author

Edward F. Bergman was born in Wisconsin and studied at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), the University of Vienna (Austria), and the University of Washington in Seattle. Today he teaches at Lehman College of the City University of New York and widely across Europe. When not lecturing or writing, he enjoys Manhattan's cultural and social life, although, he warns, nobody should come to his house for dinner expecting great food.

William H. Renwick earned a B.A. from Rhode Island College in 1973 and a Ph.D. in geography from Clark University in 1979. He has taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Rutgers University, and is currently Associate Professor of Geography at Miami University. A physical geographer with interests in geomorphology and environmental issues, his research focuses on impacts of land-use change on rivers and lakes, particularly in agricultural landscapes in the Midwest. When time permits, he studies these environments from the seat of a wooden canoe. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent text for introducing college students to Geography, May 19, 2000
I have used this text for approximately a year and found that the students are able to comprehend geography better with a systematic approach than a regional one. One of the things that sold me on this text was the auxillary material, particularly the webpage. The book is very easy to read and has excellent illustrations and photos. Needless to say, I highly recommend this text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intro to Geography: People, Places, and Environment (4th Edition), August 7, 2009
I used this product for my World Geography course in college. A decent text book and a lot cheaper than what the college store was asking for. A few typos and a few wrong facts but other than that a pretty good text book.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I teach the class & we use this text. I wanted one that I could mark up and put notes on. This was a real bargain. The cost was more than 1/2 of what the school's whole price was.
