About the Author

Dr. Russell Powell earned his Ph.D. in psychology under the late Frank Epling and David Pierce at the University of Alberta. Now serving as the Chair of Psychology and Sociology at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Powell was the first instructor to develop and offer university-level courses via "computer-managed learning", a nontraditional, alternative delivery format. He has taught and published across a diverse range of areas such as social psychology, experimental psychology, operant conditioning, sleep paralysis nightmares and Freud criticism. Recently, Dr. Powell has become involved in the controversy over the nature and causes of dissociative identity disorder, coauthoring articles promoting a social learning perspective that have appeared in Canadian Journal of Psychiatry (Powell and Gee, 1999) and Psychological Bulletin (Lilienfeld et al., 1999). --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jade's Review, October 28, 2009

This review is from: Introduction to Learning and Behavior (Paperback)
Learning and Behavior is very well written, clear, and effective text for Psychology students. This book covers some history of psychological theory, the actual application of those theories, and conducting and understanding behavioral research and it's implications about the learning process of humans and animals. The mini-chapter reviews and end of chapter tests are excellent for solidifying information in one's memory and aiding in the application of such information. This book provides evidence that a smaller, condensed, and micro-focused text is far more effective for studying a subject, than a huge text book attempting to cover too many fields worth of information.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay.., September 21, 2010

I love the book because it is compact, but the material was quite difficult to comprehend (my classmates can agree on this), and the words are small. Not much pictures, and there's a couple of figures in it.

Understandable, but might take some extra time re-reading some of the material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward and useful, April 9, 2010

The book is pretty straightforward and helpful. The mini self-examinations at the end of each section either reviews highlights the major concepts concisely or indicates that you weren't paying enough attention. I am HAPPY with my purchase. Very clear little psychology book that can also be entertaining to read.
