Book Description

February 28, 1997 Artech House Optoelectronics Library
Introduction to Lightwave Communication Systems covers the cutting-edge of optical fiber technology. The book takes a building-block approach to provide a complete understanding of system design and provides an excellent technical grounding in the field. It discusses traditional optical fiber systems (including transmission media, light sources, semiconductor lasers, light detectors, couplers, splices, and connectors), while it also explores new solutions to system performance problems by examining state-of-the-art devices, systems and their key components.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, but academic treatment, August 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Introduction to Lightwave Communication Systems (Artech House Optoelectronics Library) (Hardcover)
This book has a reasonable treatment of fiber optics, but is more academic than practical in nature. I'd recommend the interested reader start with Kaminow's "Optical fiber telecommunications IIIA & IIIB" or Agrawal's "Fiber Optic Communications Systems".
