Book Description

0073527076 978-0073527079 September 10, 2009 5
Introduction to Managerial Accounting, 5/e by Brewer/Garrison/Noreen is based on the market-leading text, Managerial Accounting, by Garrison, Noreen and Brewer. However, this is not simply a briefer book with chapters removed; Brewer 5e has been rethought and retooled to meet the needs of the market. Brewer 5e is a more accessible, yet thoroughly student-friendly text that satisfies the basic needs of the managerial accounting student without unnecessary depth on advanced topics associated with the follow-up course: cost accounting/cost management. Faculty and students alike will find this new edition has retained the hallmark features of the Garrison brand: author-written supplements, excellent readability, terrific examples, and balanced end-of-chapter material.

4.0 out of 5 stars managerial accounting, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Amazon saved me! I ordered this "textbook" from another online "textbook" provider. It was routed through an outside vendor. I was informed a week after the order was placed that I would not receive it for another 14 days!!! They wouldn't even let me cancel the order. I found the textbook on Amazon and had it shipped overnight. It was a wonderful process! If you need this book and your instructor is requiring the Connect card, you do not need to purchase the book new. You can purchase Connect access right from the Connect sight. Save money and trees...buy used!!! I wish I had known this.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5-star book, February 7, 2010
This review is from: Introduction to Managerial Accounting (Hardcover)
I have written this review for the preceding, fourth edition of this book. However, I found it so great I wanted to let the potential buyers about this book.

As a professional studying part-time, I was first afraid of the size and apparent "density" of this book. However, it's turned out to be the best manual I have ever experienced, whether it is in exact sciences or social sciences.
1. The text is clearly written and understandable, which is the reason why this is a 600-page book: the authors take their time to explain clearly (but still as succinctly as possible) what they want you to understand, then learn. At the end of the day, the book reads fast.
2. Within each chapter, there are plenty of 150-word illustrations of concrete examples, taken from leading newspapers or accounting journals, which help linking the theory (the main body of the book) to the practice (real life). These are up-to-date, in addition to be interesting.
3. There are multiple quick exercises and problems, throughout the chapters, which are answered (with explanations) at the end of each chapter. On many occasions, they have helped me understand more deeply the discussion of the chapter, and they have also helped me perform in the exercises and problems I had to do myself during my course (more by guiding me rather than stupidly working by complete analogy).
4. The book is clearly structured, with "learning objectives" stated at the beginning of each chapter (with a brief description), and at the end of each chapter (with a brief summary). Paragraphs are clearly defined, there are definitions of key words and concepts at the end of each chapter, complemented by a complete index.
5. Last but not least, this is the first time I have experienced an actually useful and enjoyable "multimedia" book. By going on the book's website, one can download a 30-minute presentation (audio narrated text, or narrated video slide show) for each chapter: storable on an iPod and/or any computer. Great before reading the chapter, as well as after. In addition, one or two additional "real life" video examples are available per chapter, in a journalistic type reportage. There are also many useful quick exercises on-line (which also give a short explanation when your answer is wrong), excel templates, and more.

In summary, this book is surely great for full-time students. As for part-time students (or professionals who want/need to get an introduction or refresh of their memory about accounting), who will have to struggle with a busy schedule and lack of enthusiasm to start studying in the evening, this book is perfect! Congratulations to the authors!

2.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to Managerial Accounting "With Connect Plus", January 19, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Well, I received the book Introduction to Managerial Accounting, but go figure the book didn't come with connect plus, so now I'm in over 130$ on a book I was expecting to pay $80 for. If it says it includes something in the title you would think it would be included, but MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SMALL PRINT if you make a purchase from this seller. What you buy may not be what it's made out to be.
