Book Description

December 1975
Designed to explore the applications of mathematical techniques and methods related to biology, this text explores five areas: cell growth, enzymatic reactions, physiological tracers, biological fluid dynamics and diffusion. Topics essentially follow a course in elementary differential equations — some linear algebra and graph theory; requires only a knowledge of elementary calculus.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit outdated (in some way) but still one of the best, October 6, 2009
This book was written in the 1970s. Applications of mathematics in biology are wider now. So it is not surprising that this book is in some way a bit outdated. There are other mathematical biology books that cover more contemporary topics. However, as far as fundamentals of mathematical biology in areas such as diffusion processes and fluid flows are concerned, I still regard this book as one of the best in the field. In my opinion, it is definitely better than some of the more recently written texts (e.g. "An Introduction to Mathematical Physiology and Biology" by J Mazumdar).
