Best Introduction to Moral Theology, September 10, 2010
This review is from: Introduction to Moral Theology (Catholic Moral Thought) (Paperback)
Romanus Cessario is brilliant. Introduction to Moral Theology is for people who want to seriously study Catholic moral theology. It is not an easy read because it demands thoughtfulness from the reader. It is written with clarity and consistency that one needs in a text such as this.
The Church today suffers from an inadequate view of Christian living. Often, Christian morality is reduced to not breaking the Ten Commandments, and thus morality is prevented from giving life and is only seen as keeping us from death. Jesus Christ did not come to this earth in order to keep us from sinning, but rather He "came that we might have life, and have it overwhelmingly." Cessario presents a moral system of Christian living, one that utilizes the Ten Commandments, but also the virtues, freedom, grace, Beatitude and the Holy Spirit.
Working within the framework of Thomistic virtue ethics and the guidelines established in Veritatis Splendor, this book's rigorous presentation of moral theology re-establishes the life-giving aspect of a truly Christ-centered morality.
Get this book if you want to know truly how to follow Christ in your daily walk with Him. Beyond the moral manuals, this book presents morality as it should be, preparation for Beatitude in cooperation with the grace won for us by Jesus Christ.
