5.0 out of 5 stars Good Guide For Anyone Who Wants to Use "R" (Which is Free...), July 17, 2010

This review is from: Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis in Chemometrics (Hardcover)
Chemometrics is a powerful methodology for Scientific Research. This book is short, so I thought it would be a good introduction. The authors DO make very nice explaination of all of the basics of chemometrics, like PCA, Multivariate Regression, and Cluster Analysis. Also, for those without expensive Chemometrics software, the authors give ample optional applications for the R free software. There are lots of syntax examples to use in R, and they discuss many examples. Some concepts are just introduced, the syntax for R given, and that's it!- but what do expect from a 300 page book that covers so many topics? The extra tid bits are useful to expand in other texts. The book is well written, good binding, and pretty easy to follow along. If you're clueless on linear algebra, they provide a systematic methodology to follow along. The text also applies many examples and diagrams for explaination. The authors do mention that a user of chemometrics doesn't necessarily have to understand all the math behind the methods in order to use them for their purposes. So, in summary, perfect manual for users of R software and this text is a very rich introduction on all levels.

It is a book that its content corresponds to the title, showing the multivariable analysis in a clear an objective way. The utilization of R as software environment is a good choice.
