Not bad, but needs updated,
By Angela (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Introduction to Neuroendocrinology (Paperback)
I bought this book for a graduate course called Neuroendocrinology. While the textbook is easy to understand, complete with diagrams to illustrate main points crucial to neuroendocrinology, the book is outdated. It needs to be revamped: the pictures need to be put in color (we're in the 21st century now, come on) and recently developed techniques as well as the research from those techniques need to be included. The publishers need to work on it!

Good introduction in plain English,
This review is from: An Introduction to Neuroendocrinology (Paperback)
This book is exactly what I was looking for: a simple, accessible introduction to basic neuroendocrinology, written by someone who has experience of what beginning learners need and how to present it to them. Once I have finished this book, I will move on to more complex and more up-to-date texts. But this book will have given me the foundation on which to build.
My purpose in pursuing this subject is probably atypical from the medical and biology students. My wife has a complex of medical conditions with multiple diagnoses in the area of neuroendocrinology, and most likely more diagnoses yet to come. Most of the advances we have made have been via my research on the internet and studying medical textbooks. My interest is not theoretical and professional, but personal and pragmatic. I need to understand neuroendocrinology in order to model this very complex system in silico, as a computer scientist, to better understand it and to better guide her to reliable diagnoses and more effective treatment. Had this book been updated in the last few years, I would have given it five stars.

Hopelessly out of date,

If my prof hadn't written this book I am sure we wouldn't be using it. We have the benefit of new figures that have been created in the past ten years. Anyone else that uses this book needs their head examined.
