Useful text and reference,

This review is from: Introduction to Paralegalism: Perspectives, Problems, and Skills, 6E (West Legal Studies) (Hardcover)
I use this book as the textbook in an Intro to Law for Paralegals class that I teach. The books is incredibly well-organized and useful. There are very few typos, and additionally it contains great references at the end of each chapter. While I think the book is designed for the classroom setting, it can also be used for self-teaching as well. Even after the class is over students can use the book as a reference guide.

This book is a must for those considering a paralegal career. The book is very detailed, with good examples and offers several excercises. You'll want to keep this book when the semester ends; no need to do a re-sale on this item.

I recommend this book and have purchased it for some on my staff over a period of years. Introduction was published in 2002 and continues to be useful.

Jumps around to much. Confusing. Too much of the authors opinion. Doesn't make sense. Hard to stay focused. Not an easy read. Can I have a refund?

I have been a legal assistant/paralegal for 14 years, but am just now obtaining official certification. The information contained in this book has been valuable in helping me improve my organizational skills, learn about additional opportunities available for paralegals, acquire bits and pieces of details of the profession I didn't already have, and gain a solid foundation on which I can be confident in the future. It provides details in an informative, yet interesting manner and provides outside sources of information and support. I think it would be a wonderful tool for someone just starting out in the legal field or for someone who has had years of experience but would like to expand their knowledge or attempt to develop a career that is outside the norm. I am very much enjoying and appreciating this book.

Extremely detailed text about the paralegal profession. Has a CD included that allows practice and review of the chapter materials. Also included in the book is information about a company sponsored website that allows for review information.
New texts are so expensive that it was wonderful to get this text in almost new condition for about half the price.

Very thorough, informative book on what a paralegal is, what they do and instruction on how to do it. Strongly recommend to anyone in the paralegal field or anyone considering going into the paralegal field. Very good section on how to do legal research. Although it is a textbook, it can easily be used on its own without a class because it is very thorough.

While I've only begun to read/use this required text, the amount of basic information and links to resources is well worth the purchase price (although I have to admit I got an awesome deal through one of the Amazon booksellers).
It details what it's like to be a paralegal, the history surrounding the profession, how to begin preparing for that first paralegal position and, surprisingly, what legal office politics one might encounter. Much of the information can be applied to other fields of work, not just paralegalism. Additionally, the appendices are state specific for several issues. As someone who has an extensive array of college textbooks, this book ranks up there with some of my favorite keepers. This book will remain on my shelf for many years if for no other reason than as a reminder/review/resource of the profession.

It was not clear to me when I ordered this book that it was volume 2 (out of 2) and didn't contain the first three chapters.
