This review is from: Introduction to Positive Philosophy (Paperback)
I found this to be very succinct and readable. It's a hard subject to find original material on but worth the search. Auguste Compte is the creator of sociology and logical positivism. He is one of histories greatest philosphers and like Epicurus, he rarely gets credit for his contibutions to empirical philosophy. He lived in France the mid 19th century and his thoery of logical positivism is a natural progression of Cartesian philosophy laid out in Rene Descartes "Discourse on Method" Unfortunately it is very hard to find original sources of Auguste Compte's work in English. After much searching I was able to procure original copies of his two most famous English protoges:John Stuart Mill who wrote down Auguste Compte's Positive Philosophy in English in 1866, there is also a two volume work by Harriet Matineau written in 1853. The paperback "An introduction to Positive Philosophy" is a succinct intoduction to Positive Philosophy
