A New User of Pro/SHEETMETAL,
By John Whittler (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
People are very interesting. I do not agree nor understand the last reviewer, "No comments". I do agree with the other reviewers in that this is a great book. This is a must have book for anyone who is starting with a very difficult module. The book explains how to use the basic features in a clear step by step approach. Most books are not written this way. They assume that you already know the subject matter. Before this book, I was very frustrated with the quality of documentation from PTC. I was ready to give up! After a few chapters in this book, I was able to create parts on my own. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is frustrated with the lack and quality of documentation from PTC or third party authors.

Highly recommend Intro to Pro/Sheetmetal,

This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
I highly recommend Intro to Pro/Sheetmetal as an interesting and effective guide to using the Pro/Sheetmetal module. Creating the various projects in this book helped me gain proficiency with Pro/Sheetmetal, and also helped develop my overall Pro/E modeling skills. The instructions during the Sketcher parts of the exercises helped me incorporate Intent Manager into my modeling. They also helped me to dimension walls from their appropriate surfaces. The chapter that explains how set up a Family Table for a Flat Instance was extremely helpful, especially when sending files to sheet metal vendors that have Pro/E. Intro to Pro/Sheetmetal was a big help to me in understanding the basic parts of the Pro/Sheetmetal module.

Intro to Pro/SHEETMETAL review,
By David Miles (Arlington, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
I agree with the reader from Boston, MA. I learned quite a bit from the book. Before I purchased it, I literally had no Pro/SHEETMETAL experience. I now have a good solid understanding of Pro/SHEETMETAL. The book was geared more towards novice Pro users, but the more experienced users can just skim over some of the basic information. The lessons were enjoyable and I think the book could be used a reference tool also.

Great for beginner at Pro/Sheetmetal,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
This is a great book for a first time user of Pro/Sheetmetal, expecially for someone with limited Pro/E experience. The lessons are easy to follow and do a good job of covering basic sheet metal part and assembly construction. Wish there was some discussion of failed features unique to Pro/Sheetmetal, but overall a very good text. Probably not a lot here for experienced users, but I was no longer intimidated by Pro/Sheetmetal after using this book.

A Pro/E User,

This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
The Pro/SHEETMETAL book illustrates the basic features in Pro/E-Sheetmetal. The author clearly steps you through creating simple parts like an bracket and an Electrical box. I felt like the teacher was sitting next to me. I really liked the Top-down assembly approach information on Start parts and skeletons in the assembly. This is a difficult subject that was clearly explained. The information on how to create your own solid forms and to work with the sheet metal vendors was invaluable. Overall it was extremely helpful to me in my job when I didn't have time to go to a training class.

This is a great book for a Pro/Sheetmetal user. The lessons were straightforward and a great job was performed by the author to explain and demonstrate the potential of this module. I really enjoyed the Top-down approach. This is a very difficult subject / module and it was explained in terms that I could understand. The book was very helpful to me.

Fair Information - Poorly Presented - Questionable Practices,
By A Customer
This review is from: An Introduction to Pro/SHEETMETAL (Release 20/2000i) (Paperback)
This book provides moderate-quality information in that it does not generally provide best practices for completing models. The goal seems to be to create features for the sake of creating them, not to create the best possible model. Some of the modeling techniques employed are questionable at best. The lamp project is neither a good design nor easily manufacturable. Actually, I can't see any company ever trying to produce this product. Better examples could have been used to teach the techniques shown in this example. The book also did not take enough time to explain the "why's" about what was being done or why alternate methods weren't employed. Overall, the book provides a fair description of how to make some sheetmetal features but it isn't a good teaching guide. The Kinko's packaging job, photocopied text cheaply bound with cardstock and tape, is inexcusable for a book in this price range.
