Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This revision of Schneider’s best-selling guide is designed for readers with no prior programming experience. It focuses on developing good problem-solving skills, building a strong foundation that will give readers a sustainable understanding of programming.  KEY TOPICS: Based on Visual Basic 2008, the book starts with a brief review of the preliminaries of Windows, and then focuses on problem-solving. A broad range of real-world examples, section-ending exercises, case studies, and programming projects gives readers significant hands-on experience.  A useful reference for both beginning programmers and those moving from another language and that want to learn more about programming with the latest version of Microsoft’s Visual Basic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Barely scratches the surface of VB, June 18, 2009
I am rather disappointed in this textbook.

The text does seem to cover basic logic and forms well. However, it doesn't cover objects until the last chapter, and doesn't cover them near as much as it ought to. Furthermore, it takes a strictly GUI approach; the book doesn't cover console applications at all. Finally, despite having Visual Basic 2008 in the title, it doesn't cover LINQ or WPF; major additions to Visual Basic in 2008!

On the whole, I feel there are much stronger introductory textbooks available for VB, and would not recommend this one.

It's actually a well written book. It's easy to use, very easy to read and quite easy to understand. I dont even bother listening in class anymore because all I need is this book.
