Book Description

July 1997 1854861530 978-1854861535
This is an introduction for the amateur to the ideas and concepts, both theoretical and practical, of robotics. It is divided into two sections. The first covers how and why robots work and how they are controlled. The second discusses how to make a simple two-legged humanoid robot that can be programmed to walk. There are no complicated formulae or equations to grapple with or complicated circuit diagrams to decipher, and you do not have to be a machinist or a programmer. The robot can be built quickly on a workbench or even a kitchen table, with a minimum number of handtools, and all the parts are easily available.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners - REAL Beginners..., June 2, 2002

This review is from: An Introduction to Robotics (Paperback)
Having been into robotics and electronics for several years, this book really didn't hold my interest long...

However, it does show some good ideas on construction techniques. Occasionally the grammer and spelling could be improved. Also, it has a pretty good synopsis on balancing, and walking techniques.

Although, I personally didn't get much from it - I don't feel like I've wasted my money. Like I have with other books...

1.0 out of 5 stars THERE ARE MUCH BETTER BOOKS!, October 30, 2004
This review is from: An Introduction to Robotics (Paperback)
This book is not an attention getter by any means. Poorly written and singular in substance. At this point the information is mostly out dated. There are some interesting mechanical concepts shown but a free web search into bipeds will reveal the same....

4.0 out of 5 stars Good step-by-step introduction, June 5, 2002
This review is from: An Introduction to Robotics (Paperback)
Takes you step-by-step through the basics of motion control and building a moving robot. A good primer if you are interested in the subject but are starting from zero knowledge. You will need basic model-building skills and persistence to complete the project, but you should know a lot more at the end.
