This review is from: An Introduction to Southern California Birds (Paperback)
This book features wonderful photography and is a great starter book for Southern California Bird Watchers. I started using it about a year ago and was happy to find 90% of the birds in my backyard could be easily identified in this book. It also features helpful descriptions and maps. Happy birdwatching!

Order this for my 83 year old mother who enjoys watching birds in her backyard everyday. She just loves the book and it has helped her identify many of the birds she regularly sees. Book arrived in great condition and quickly in time for Mother's Day. Would do business with again.

This review is from: An Introduction to Southern California Birds (Paperback)
Using the photos in "An Introduction to Southern California Birds," I was able to quickly identify the birds in my backyard. The photos are beautiful and show a lot of detail.
Birds are grouped by regions such as coast, mountains, desert, etc. The birds not native to the area but sometimes found here -- like some flamingos, parrots, and ducks -- are not listed. I found many birds by flipping to just the area I live. However, birds that live in more than one region are only listed in one of those regions. So I found myself searching all over the book for photos of birds I see in my backyard. Fortunately, the book is short. A better approach would have been to group the birds by type. After all, I know what an owl looks like. I just need to find out what type of owl. The same is true of other birds: hummingbirds and sparrows, etc. Overall, the book is informative. I can't say enough about the quality of the photos. They are lovely. I will keep the book near my backyard window, where I often sit to watch the birds at the feeder.
