Introduction to Speech Science is tailor made for the undergraduate Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology student. It provides a basic, student-friendly introduction to Speech and Hearing Science, alleviating frustration on the parts of both students and instructors who have been forced to use graduate-level texts in the past. The authors have many years of experience teaching undergraduate courses in Speech Science, and their book is written in simple, easy to understand language. It features extensive hints to students to reinforce concepts and assist science-shy students. At the end of each chapter, there are questions for students' review of the material. The book also includes recent references for further information, and a glossary of terms. For undergraduate Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology students, or those with an interest in this field.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear Explanations, April 5, 2010
By
This review is from: Introduction to Speech Science (Paperback)
Speech Science was one of the first classes I took in pursuit of my pre-requisites needed to apply to grad school to become a SLP. My professor used the Introduction to Speech Science as one of our texts. I found the book to give clear and insightful explanations to the science of speech. The diagrams and descriptions were very helpful in doing our own self-evaluation of the differences between vowels/consonants etc. Overall, I feel that this text offers a great introduction on the topic.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Introduction to Speech Science (Paperback)
This was a frustrating purchase, because I needed the book on short notice for a college class, but it was not available at the bookstore. Two attempts to order online (not Amazon) were canceled after they had been confirmed. Just after I placed the Amazon order, the book became available at the bookstore; and since the class had already started, I bought the book there and attempted to cancel the Amazon order. I thought I had done so, but about ten days later the book showed up.

To add insult to injury, the text is gutless, more suited to a freshman class than the senior-level one I am taking.
