Book Description

0803974027 978-0803974029 July 16, 1996 3

This book describes how surveys are conducted in such a way that they can be believed, explains how to read statistical reports and analyze data, and provides guidelines that are useful in evaluating polls.

Using examples from contemporary large surveys and polls, as well as from the media, the authors stress the importance of understanding tables thoroughly before moving to interval statistics. In addition, they cover: the design of surveys; the steps for sampling and question writing; interviewing and coding strategies; survey analysis from frequency distributions and cross-tabulations through to control tables and correlation/regression; the ethics of survey research; and how to read and write reports of survey research.

4.0 out of 5 stars Survey methods and madness in a simple, low-tech format, July 28, 2001
By
Joe Waitress (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Introduction to Survey Research, Polling, and Data Analysis (Paperback)
Surveys are everywhere and poll results are a dime a dozen nowadays. Everyone has their poll statistics to share with you--on the news, in the paper, in magazines, oh, and of course, on the Internet. Have you ever wondered how they get those stratified samples, or how they get the +/- 4% error on those polls you read over coffee in the morning? This book gives you all the basics that you'll ever want to know if you want to interpret polls, polling data, survey data--or just plain understand all the political and behavioral conclusions that are drawn from surveys. If you're in college or grad school, or if you make your living by analyzing market research or survey data, this book is definitely worth the investment. If you actually want to conduct surveys of your own, it's a must-read! But, remember, it's pretty basic. It might not teach you all the statistical pixie dust that you'll need to analyze your data, but it will get you off to the proper start in setting up your research designs. Warning: methodology books can be mind-numbing. That's why I gave it only 4 stars. It's not nearly as mind-numbing as most in its genre, but, hey, it's a methodology book, so it's not exactly a dance on the rooftop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Survey Overview, June 12, 2000
This review is from: An Introduction to Survey Research, Polling, and Data Analysis (Paperback)
Statistical Analysis available book It is difficult of us to find statistical book about survey. It help us how to make survey sheet and survey analysis by statisitics. Other survey book is so muck expensive, but this is, I think, good for value. Well I recommend this book other people who try to survey and survey analysis.
