Book Description

January 1998
This book has been written by two lecturers who have been teaching systems analysis techniques to students for a number of years. Not only have they been active practitioners with first hand knowledge of the techniques described, but have also developed effective ways of getting their message across to students from a wide variety of backgrounds. The book is based on the way they teach, and comes across in an easy, friendly and accessible style. It lays a firm foundation in analysis and is suitable for a wide range of undergraduate courses. The techniques introduced include spray and tree diagrams, data flow diagrams, data modelling, normalisation and entity life histories. The approach throughout is to introduce the techniques by the use of step-by-step worked examples.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Systems analysis has a reputation for complexity. This book makes it remarkably accessible. The book introduces systems analysis and describes its role in the overall development process. It also explains how to be an effective part of a systems development team. The authors, who are expert practitioners, cover virtually every major systems analysis technique. These include: spray and tree diagrams, data flow diagrams, data modeling, normalization and entity life histories. Each technique is introduced with practical, step-by-step worked examples. The book encourages the early development of both the physical and logical view, and shows exactly how to apply this logicalization to data flow diagrams. For anyone interested in the fundamentals of system analysis, including both IT professionals and students.
