Book Description

December 4, 2006 007340294X 978-0073402949 1
A complete, but less complex approach to SA&D. Introduction to Systems Analysis & Design is organized like Whitten’s best-selling Systems Analysis & Design Methods, but without the information systems architecture framework theme that overwhelms some students. Each chapter covers the same topics, but stops short of advanced details that are unnecessary to the typical first course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best practice book I've ever read, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Introduction to Systems Analysis & Design (Hardcover)
I have to admit, I had to purchase this book because my Prof. at my University said we needed it for our classes. It is a little expensive, especially if you are a student, but it is definitely worth the price.

It does what it the cover says, give a detailed overview over how to analyse and design information systems. At first it gives you a slow introduction on who in the project to keep an eye on and how to manage the project as a whole. Here the author could have gone a little bit more in detail, with one or two more chapters. After that it takes you directly to the making of the requirements documents like Use-Cases, Process Modeling and Feasibility Analysis. Every technique is well explained and examples with pictures etc. show the right usage.
In the last part we enter the design methods, here we have a broad overview of how anyone should design the database, the GUI or should proceed in prototyping, but only in an abstract way without any source code.

To give a summary, this book is definitely worth buying. I wish I had to read it sooner because it would have made some internships a lot easier. It is expensive, but considering the low sales figures and given the academic background it should be normal. So buy this book if you need to learn more about how to design big projects and take user requirements correctly.

Ordered very close to the beginning of school and it showed up just in time. Book is in excellent shape. Only Bad thing was that there was no tracking number provided for the shipment.
