Foundations for OOP, C#, and .NET Framework,

This review is from: Introduction to C# Using .NET (Paperback)
This is the only C# book I currently own, but after reading the reader reviews, this one seemed a good choice. It is 2 weeks later, and I have finished going through the book and the downloaded code examples that come along with the book. There is not much I can add to all the praise the other readers have given this author and this book, but let me say, "I agree!".I think this book is the best "Intro to ... " book I've ever read. I needed to not only learn C# and the .NET Framework, but OOP in general. Robert J. Oberg's Introduction to C# Using .NET book teaches all these things in a very natural way that makes it easy. I've learned more reading this book over the past week than I learned in the $1700 5 day Intro to C# class I attended using Microsoft training material.

Best book for learning C#,
By Darrell Nungester (Floyds Knobs, Indiana United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Introduction to C# Using .NET (Paperback)
I purchased 3 books in order to learn C# and learn it fast (this book, Jesse Liberty's "Learning C#", and Klaus Nichelsen's "C# Primer Plus"). Although this book was based on the Beta, this is the best of the three books. Don't get me wrong, I highly recommend all three books for the developer who is coming from Visual Basic 6 or another language. The illustrations in this book are excellent and the author has done a great job writing this book. I did NOT find very many errors, but I have not read any books that did not have any errors. A few errors is expected. This book is one of several 5-star books that Robert Oberg has written and the editing is very good. This book was so very good that I plan to purchase other Robert Oberg books dealing advanced Visual Basic.Net and C# programming. Please note, this is very large book but the reading is easy and won't put you to sleep. The chapters have been divided up nicely. Not to long or not to short.

Great book,

I recently had to get up to speed on C# fast for a graduate course I was taking and I bought this book. I found this book to be a great primer for the language. Coverage of the basics of the language is very throrough; with the one exception of somewhat weak coverage of collections. Oberg's explanations and examples are simple, clear, and to the point throughout the book. By the end of the book Oberg has you coding a multi-threaded banking program, and it barely feels like work! If you are serious about learning to program in C#, get this book!!!

A Good Introductory Book,
This review is from: Introduction to C# Using .NET (Paperback)
A good introductory book - if you already have a good background in C/C++. Otherwise, you'd be struggling and may need some other really basic books to complement your reading.
Most books have erratas and this book is no exception. However, it is minimal and acceptable.

decent beginner's tutorial,

If you just want to spend the bucks to quickly get started with C# without understanding it much, this book will help. It covers a lot of ground fast, but very much on the surface. Unfortunately, examples often do not prove the point and events example was more erroneus than helpful. And this book is virtually useless later on as a reference material, because the material is not well organized and depth is missing.

Precise and clear explaination of the C# language.,
By Blue Monkey "flyingmonkey" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Introduction to C# Using .NET (Paperback)
This book is very well organized. The explainations of each feature are clear, concise, and easy to understand. The book explains the theory behind each feature in an easy manner to understand, not with tons and tons of codes to skim through. It's a great beginner's book to learning C# and the .NET FrameWork...

Excellent, generic approach, good for VBers,
By "pfankuchen" (Kingsport, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Introduction to C# Using .NET (Paperback)
This book is clearly written, with no fluff. The approach is especially good for VB programmers who have some familarity with COM techniques, although this is not a requirement. Meant to be a first reading, the focus is on console applications, with only a taste of Windows forms programming (to be continued in another volume).Object-oriented programming is probably here to stay (for awhile, at least), and this book will help you to become more comfortable with this technology using C# as a vehicle. |
