From the Publisher

Introduction to ADSL is a self-paced CD-ROM or intranet-based training tool designed for sales, marketing, and engineering professionals. It equips participants with a complete knowledge of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and its applications. Participants will secure an understanding of ADSL and will be able to make educated deployment decisions as well as position ADSL for both residential and business markets.

The course provides an overview of topics such as circuit vs. packet mode transmission, the status of telco outside plant equipment, alternative plant configurations, bandwidth and transmission speeds, and cable and high-speed twisted pair modem technologies.

Specific ADSL topics include deployment restrictions, central office deployment and "end-user" site wiring, separation of voice and data traffic, and a contextual look at how ADSL compares with other high bandwidth services such as cable modems, wireless access systems, and other xDSL variants.

The course also discusses the enormous impact of the World Wide Web on end- users, telecommunications companies, and Internet services providers (ISPs).

Participants consider ADSL's use for small office, home office (SOHO) applications, Internet access, and intranet applications.

The course requires 2-3 hours to complete. A basic understanding of telephony and data communications is helpful.
