More About the Author

Bob Blitzer is a native of Manhattan and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with dual majors in mathematics and psychology (minor: English literature) from the City College of New York. His unusual combination of academic interests led him toward a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of Miami and a doctorate in behavioral sciences from Nova University. Bob's love for teaching mathematics was nourished for nearly 30 years at Miami Dade College, where he received numerous teaching awards, including Innovator of the Year from the League for Innovations in the Community College and an endowed chair based on excellence in the classroom. In addition to Thinking Mathematically, Bob has written textbooks covering introductory algebra, college algebra, algebra and trigonometry, and precalculus, all published by Prentice Hall. When not secluded in his Northern California writer's cabin, Bob can be found hiking the beaches and trails of Point Reyes National Seashore, and tending to the chores required by his beloved entourage of horses, chickens, and irritable roosters.

I had last used algebra in middle school and high school about 15 years ago. Needless to say, my skills were a little rusty. This book did an *amazing* job at explaining the material in such an intuitive way that it now seems obvious. The book covers about 2 years of high school material, and I was able to (re)learn it all in a matter of weeks. However, it's still math and you won't learn a thing unless you sit down and solve the problems.

I had not had Alegbra sinec the 80's. My Professors used this book for two courses so it saved me a lot of money. The book is great, has lots of wonderful examples and the answers in the back!

This text is very good - easy to use and provides lots of good examples.
However, I had a lot of trouble with the MML code. I contacted Pearson and was told that Amazon or any other reseller other than a college bookstore is not permitted to sell the codes. The code I purchased from Amazon (new, in shrinkwrap) was not valid. Luckily, my school worked with me and helped me get a valid MML code, but in the interim I fell behind in my coursework. Use caution!
