This book is perfect for those looking for an introduction to psychiatry. The text is pleasantly readable and very informative. I would highly recommend this for anyone in the field of psychology or those who are just interested in reading up on it.

I use this for my medical school psychiatry class and I think it does a very good job of detailing the conditions we are studying in an easy and condensed form.

This book takes a difficult subject and clarifies about as well as I can imagine. It is very nicely done, and a good reference or introductory text. It could use a bit more color, some illustrations, and some tables, but overall it is a very satisfactory book for its purpose.

"I felt a cleaving in my Mind---
As if my brain had split---
I tried to match it seam-by-seam
But could not make them fit!" {1}

So begins - with this poem from our American Literature - the chapter on Schizophrenia written by our distinguished colleague who formerly served as our Editor-in-Chief of our American Journal of Psychiatry and formerly honored in our White House by our President Clinton for her outstanding Neuroscience Research.
Each and every chapter of this outstanding, valued text begins with Literature; e.g. our chapter on Adjustment Disorders commences with the Bard of Stratford-on-Avon thus:
"Whether `tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings-and-arrows of outrageous fortune..."{2}
Our forensic colleagues, both Defense Bar and Plaintiff Bar, might derive a smile at the wisdom, wit; and, dry humor that begins our chapter on Legal Issues thus:
"Lawsuit, n. a machine that you go into as a pig and come out as a sausage." {3}
This outstanding text is a valuable study adjunct for the United States Medical Licensure Examination Step III {U.S.M.L.E. III}, the American Board of Internal Medicine {A.B.I.M.}, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
I have recommended this outstanding text to my students!

this was required reading for our psychiatry course. I felt it was a decent textbook for the subject. I just don't like the subject.
