5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful program
I'm not sure why others have problems with this program. I think it's really wonderful. It's fast and easy to use. I have Windows Vista home premium but my machine isn't a powerhouse. While the program loads a bit slow, all Intuit programs load very slooooow. (I have Quicken 2008 and Quickbooks Pro 2008).
Also, it's tons of fun to use. I've been snapping photos of...

Home Inventory Manager by Quicken is the slowest and most awkward program I have ever used -- or tired to use. Most annoying is its non-intuitive approach to data entry, lack of flexibility, awarkward image importing, and slow, slow performance and screen-redraws. It seems as though some novice ported it from an old Cobol program routine.

Quicken might want to hang its head with shame; it does not belong in the QUICKen family, or on your PC.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quicken Home Invetory 2008, March 2, 2008

After 5 attempts to get this program to recognize my Quicken Home Inventory Classic file I returned the product. I communicated with QHI support staff who did not know their own product and kept referring me to their FAQ instead of answering the specific issue I had (which was not covered in the FAQ). After purchasing Quicken 2008 (which I did not want to do), that program finally recognized my original file and after 3 or 4 tries on my own I got QHI 2008 to load and convert my classic file. Much to my dissapointment QHI 2008 was nowhere near as robust as QHI Classic when it came to reporting. Seems that in giving more functionality in the area of inputting images, they cut back on flexibility/functionality in the reporting area. All in all, quite a dissapointment.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
Like many other buyers, I was totally dissatisfied with Quicken Home Inventory. I have a fairly large inventory file created by an older version of QHIM. I had hoped to upgrade to the newer version and import the older file. I found it impossible to satisfactorily install this product and import the older file.

The only reason that I gave it any stars at all was due to Intuit's prompt refund of my purchase price under their warranty.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Slow Interface, January 30, 2008
By
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
Like another reviewer mentioned, this software is very slow. Even the drop down lists on the menu bar are slowly redrawn. For example when you hover your mouse over the "File" or "Edit" menu item, it takes about 1/2 second to redraw the drop down list. This should be instant, at least after selecting the menu item the first time, and the screen redrawing is not clean. This just adds to the overall cheap feel of this software.

I have used Quicken for over 10 years. I thought Intuit would do a decent job on this one since they haven't changed the "Classic" Home Inventory feature embedded in the Quicken product until now. So, after years and years of the subpar "Classic" version, we get this cheap "upgrade" that is so slow, I'd rather use the "Classic" version.

While the program loads a bit slow, all Intuit programs load very slooooow. (I have Quicken 2008 and Quickbooks Pro 2008).
Also, it's tons of fun to use. I've been snapping photos of items, of whole rooms, our vehicles (and even our pets!) and making scans of receipts.
If you're looking for a way to keep a great inventory, this is it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I regret buying it, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
No real value above the original application came with Quicken. Perhapse the old app is far better at least it is using the same file type being used by Q.

The only benefit is the ability to add pictures which really not a big thing IMHO.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quicken Home Inventory Abandonded by Intuit, July 16, 2010
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if you have Windows 7 64 bit, expect to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit, or plan buy a new computer (most manufacturers are pre-loading Windows 7 64 bit). Kamal J of Intuit wrote the following on July 16, 2010 in response to my question about Windows 7 support (Quicken Home Inventory [Incident: 100716-001278]):

"I would like to inform you that, Quicken Home Inventory Manager is not currently supported on Microsoft® Windows® 64-bit vista or windows 7 Operating Systems.

We currently do not have any plans to fix this in the future. If you are using a 64-bit Operating System, and require a refund for your purchase, please see our Terms and conditions for exchanging, returning or refunding Quicken retail and electronically delivered software products. We have 60 days money back guarantee starting from the date of purchase of your Quicken program."

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stick with the one you get for free with Quicken, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
Except for the photo attachment feature, this is a step back from the home inventory you get free with Quicken. As reported by others, a clunky and slow user interface. Basic file functions are confusing (where is "save as"?). And the output functionality is a step back too -- for instance wouldn't it be nice to do a report sorted by location (instead of category) so that I can walk around and check my inventory?

And even the photo feature wasn't all that helpful, if I scan in a receipt it comes in so small that I can't see it, no good for an insurance agent. And I refuse to go photoshop every one.

I'm just glad Intuit does refunds. Asked for my refund 4 hours after buying this - even though I've been a loyal Quicken user since Quicken for DOS. Save yourself the time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quicken Home Inventory will work on Windows 7 (64 Bit) Virtual Machine, December 18, 2009
By
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
It will work on a 64bit Windows 7 Operating System because I have it up and running. You need Windows 7 Professional and then down load the Virtual Machine and load both the Quicken & Quicken Home Inventory on the Virtual Machine and Presto! they are both working just fine but a bit slow but that because the Virtual Machine runs everything slower Like XP. My hundreds of hours are not wasted time. But I do agree that Intuit really dropped the ball on this one and left everyone hanging. When they have software out there being used they should keep it up to date for all their customers. The customers are the ones that make or break a company so if they want to make their customers happy KEEP IT UPDATED!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Low Quality Software, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Quicken Home Inventory Manager (CD-ROM)
Clunky interface, super-slow screen redraws, and non-intuitive screens and data entry. How did this get past Quicken's Quality Assurance and User Testing departments?
I demanded and received and refund.
