5.0 out of 5 stars Solid product, easy download
The product itself has some nice improvements over the 2011 version. The Amazon download process remains very simple and straightforward.

I've been a user of Quickbooks since the mid "90s and I've always thought that they made a fine program. But I have recently updated to 2012 (from 2006) and I have to say that this program makes me grumpy several times a day. I have it installed on three computers. One running Windows 7 and two running Windows XP. All of them have problems. There is not a day that goes by when Quickbooks doesn't fail to do something that it should. Any computer that hosts the database provides inconsistent access to the file. Oddly, some process keeps the host computer from shutting down when you tell it to. PDFs don't print correctly. They use ShipRush now for shipping integration. It offers some nice features, but takes a while to boot up the first time everyday and I think it has something to do with the computer not shutting down. Shipping data is stored individually based on the computer user account, so it can't be accessed from another account.

I'm not even including my installation problems and I'm only scratching the surface with operational problems. This program is truly the most frustrating piece of software that I have ever owned in my 20+ years of using Windows PCs. It is like a virus. There are so many processes running and so many file directories spread out though various computers, that I don't even have any confidence that I could clean systems up by uninstalling the programs.

Stick with older versions if you can.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks Nice Be Ready for Some Work to Upgrade, February 14, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was using 2007 Pro and wanted multi-user Access.
Its been a long night.
I installed using the: use this computer and host option.
The program loaded, but everytime I tried to load my company file to be upgraded. Death!
Looked on the web for a solution. Came back with .net problem, is about all I found.
Results said to try and repair your .net 4.0.
Well I did all that and then some. Beyound tired at this point.

What worked for me.
Updated the software using the demo company file.
Turned off Multiuser mode, then open or restore company file.
Found my file, Upgraded the file.
Used the Quickbooks Database Server manager to locate the Company File.

All was good on the host machine....I thought!

Installed on another computer.
Couldn't open the file. I could find it. Just couldn't open it.

So I downloaded the QB Connection Diagnostic tool.
I allowed it to open the ports in the firewall, on both machines.

Then Made sure to update the version on computer number 2.
The same way I had on computer one with sample file open.

Well I opened the file on computer number 2, it worked! But when I
tried to open it on computer number one. File is in use on another computer!

Remember to turn on multi user mode on both computers!

Its very late and haven't had much time to tour the software.
Very similar to what I had in the way it looks.
Now we will see how it acts.

I really wish these software vendors would make sure they have ducks in row before releasing versions.

What ever happend to version 2.1 0r 3.12. Small incremental upgrades with less hassle.

Customers pulling hair and throwing things does not bode well.

I will give em this much. I had it up in half a night......

That fairs much better than the days I spent trying to get my quickbooks file imported to Peachtree 2010 properly!
I just finally gave up on that one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lingering problems, February 14, 2012

Quickbooks 2012 is an essential small business tool, but why is Intuit still unable to fix the PDF creation in the Windows 64 bit environment? Plus, Quickbooks' multi-user feature is not reliable when the file is hosted on another PC within the LAN.It seems like you have to shake your legs in the right sequence for this feature to work. Quickbooks is very frustrating if you rely on these two features and Intuit support is nonexistent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its Working, January 25, 2012

We have been using Quickbooks for a few years. Although it may have some quirks, for a small business, it gets the job done. I wish it had more of a robust inventory management system, but other than that, it handles the basic accounting, balancing, and reporting well.

Almost funny. We ordered this on the Thursday before MLK day, got an email the same day saying it would ship approximately 21, Jan, got another email on 19 Jan saying it has shipped and should arrive approximately 24 Jan - we got it 2 hours later on the morning of 19 Jan. Very fast, well packed, accurate order, competitive price, cannot ask for more.
