1.0 out of 5 stars Top Ten Worst Software Releases of All Time September 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Verified Purchase
I hate it when a software company I've trusted for years puts out a product so awful, buggy and incompetent that it makes me forget why I ever trusted them in the first place. This version of Quicken was dead on arrival and cost me four hours of my life I'll never get back.

Let's start with converting data from Windows. You know how you can use Word documents on either a Windows or Mac and the back-and-forth is seamless? Imagine the opposite of that. Are you imagining that? It's worse. It starts when you are installing Quicken. You are installing it on a Mac, because it's Quicken for *Mac*. Part of the install is to download the Converter. You click the link and the converter downloads. You are then told that the converter only runs on a Windows machine. So you have to transfer the file (or re-download it) on a Windows computer, which for me was at my office where I previously kept all my Quicken files. So I had to wait till Monday when I went to work to run the converter. Then I ran the converter and emailed the converted file back to myself so I could complete the conversion that night. (Why can't this version of the software just READ the data file? Shouldn't it be seamless across platforms?) Anyway, once I imported the converted data, the first thing I noticed was my checking account balance was suddenly negative $54,000. Yes, somehow a major financial company's conversion software was so inept that it deducted almost $60,000 from my checking. I contacted support. They tried to help, but had little to offer but worn apologies. I never figured out why the balances were so far off, but one factor I discovered in one account was two months worth of transactions that pre-dated when I actually opened the account at the bank.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a Quicken for Mac! August 23, 2014
Platform for Display:Mac Download
I have been using Quicken since the early 90's and therefore have a large history that I wanted to keep. I made the switch to Mac a couple of years ago and was unable to find a financial program that would allow me to keep my history and complete the things that I wanted to track, and therefore I have been continuing to run Quicken for Windows 2013 using Parallels on my Mac. It is SUPER SLOW!

Finally, QM 2015 is here! This program does mostly what I want. I was part of the beta team and am very happy with the stability of the final product.

The conversion process worked well except my larger primary checking and credit card which have a very large history. I was able to track down the specific errors and get my QM 2015 in line with my QW 2013 in about 30 minutes. All my other accounts, to include my investment accounts converted seamlessly! You must install the conversion utility on your Windows machine/partition and convert from there. Then import the converted file over to your Mac.

The interface is much cleaner than QW. I actually like it and found QW packed with a lot of features I never used. I want to track my money and know how much I really have, not what I have in this moment. This is where there are still some shortcomings. The Account Bar on the left only shows the current balance, not the projected balance. To see that, you must go to the individual account and select Projected Balance on the top right.

Downloads seem to work with all my institutions the same as with QW 2013. Be careful. Some banking shows differently than in QW. My children's Youth Spending accounts have a different bank name than my bank, which was not the case in QW. There was a learning curve to match up downloaded transactions with scheduled transactions.

Platform for Display:Mac Download|Verified Purchase
I have been using Quicken since its easiest days of Quicken for Windows. When I moved over to the Apple OSX platform, I fully expected Q for Mac to be essentially the same program - after all, real tools are available to develop software source code that can be relatively easily compiled to target both the Windows and the OSX platform. Silly me! What I found, instead, was that Q for Mac bore very little resemblance to Q for Windows. They did not have any other solution for their newer versions of OS-X for over three years. At that time they released a bandaged version of Q2007 for Mac which would run on newer Intel-based Macs - no improvement, just bandaged.

When I saw Q 2015 for Mac, my hopes were raised, and I bought this package. I imported my data, and found how to do much of what I need in the new user interface. The data did not import without copious errors - it took three solid days of work to clean up the data in two retirement annuities. To address the problems in my IRA, a personal investment account, and two checking accounts would take many additional weeks. But I could at lease begin to use the thing for managing my future finances - or so I thought.

Now I began addressing my budget, which I had been able to manage adequately in Q 2007. There, I discovered that a budget could be managed in Q 2015 only one month at a time, whereas under Q2007, I was able to set up a budget for an entire year, and track my budgetary compliance easily from there. The human interface on the budget side of this program is pretty bad. They have no such facility for real long-range planning.

To make things worse, Intuit seems to have abandoned their old policy of providing customer service on software for three years after purchase.
