4.0 out of 5 stars Turbo Tax Business - OK
I have been a user of Inutit products since quicken version 1.0.
I have been using their tax products for several years and am fairly literate with financials and accounting.
After reading the reviews posted on Amazon and elsewhere, I initially became quite concerned. I did further research, and learned all was not that bad.

I've been using Turbo Tax since the second year it was available and long before it was purchased by Intuit. I am also a long time Quicken and Quickbooks user. This will be the last year I will purchase any Intuit product because of the product activation policy. The new policy allows you to install Turbo Tax on one computer, one time only. In my case, I first installed it on my notebook, then decided that preparing taxes on a notebook keyboard is not a good idea. When I tried to install the product on my desktop and uninstall it on my desktop PC, product activation told me I could not install a fully working product on my desktop unless I paid for the product again. I called tech support and asked for help and was told that the policy only allows one installation on one PC, no exceptions. That is unacceptable. No matter how well Turbo Tax helps prepare taxes, Intuit's new policy makes this an unacceptable product. Avoid it at all costs and show Intuit what you think of their new policy.

1.0 out of 5 stars No to Turbotax, January 4, 2003

Intuit's TurboTax installs C-Dilla spyware, which hogs your computers resources, and doesn't get removed when Turbotax is uninstalled. You would also have to purchase a new copy or spend lots of time on the phone with intuit trying to convince them your not a criminal if you upgrade yoru machine. None of that is worth it.
How dare they add anything that could remotely be spyware to one of the most sensitive things (Tax return) that's on my computer.

Here's my experince:

Every year I am anxious to get TurboTax to start preparing my taxes. So when I saw it on sale in December, I had to immediately get it, a mistake. I purchased and installed TurboTax on my Laptop. At first, I had a gripe about having to activate it, but I did it anyways. Went to work the next morning and I hooked up my laptop to the company LAN, so I can copy some files over. An hour later, I had the company security team and IT team all over me. They said I was either trying to attack the firewall from within or I had a Virus. I found out it was C-Dilla that was causing me such grief, so I went through the back way to remove it and all this time I didn't know it came with TurboTax. Went home and to my surprise, TurboTax didn't work. After serveral tries, it did work, but I now had an unactivated copy. So I got on line with Customer Service and the only thing they said was I had to buy another license after 45 minutes of waiting. Another $... for the Home and Business edition? I think not. The following day, I called and spoke to an agent and they gave me a new Product key after much persuassion. I spent a few hours (6+) trying to resolve this, simply not worth it. Oh and now TurboTax locks up once in a while when I try to print. I'm going with Tax Cut or something else next year. Been with TurboTax since 1997, the first 4 years were great... Thanks and hope this helps people decide.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO CUSTOMER SERVICE+NO REFUNDS=BUY TAXCUT, January 7, 2003
This review is from: TurboTax Business 2002 (CD-ROM)
OK, I'm something of a nut on the subject of corporate responsibility. In short, I have no problems with INTUIT doing anything they wnat with their software, as long as they give me enough knowledge to not buy thier product.

ALL 1-800 numbers for Turbo Tax have been elmininated. In fact, I can find no phone number to talk to a live person even at my expense. They have an web-based portal to talk with a live agent that I have been trying to access since Thursday, with absolutely no success.

This appears to be a very dishonest company. Even if their software were better (and I do not think that it is) I would suggest promoting a bit of corporate accountability by taking your hard earned money elsewhere.

Due to product activation I cannot recommend this product. It requires me to purchase an additional copy of the software just to use it on my laptop. I certainly won't be buying QuickBooks or any other Intuit product after this.

The instructions saying you can install to multiple machines are FALSE!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this tax product!, January 14, 2003

Intuit has gone to great lengths to make their turbtax product nearly IMPOSSIBLE to use starting this year. With such an unforgiving activation scheme, you can only use ONE PC to do your taxes--If you want to do partially at home and partially at work for example, forget it. And in order to include this activation scheme, the cdrom automatically installs software that includes spyware and that stays on your computer using resources every time you boot up even if you uninstall turbotax! They've gone to great measures to encourage you to try TaxCut instead--Do It!

1.0 out of 5 stars Deceptive product, January 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: TurboTax Business 2002 (CD-ROM)
This product installs a monitor software program that may track and report all of your software and data to a server on the Internet. The software runs whether the TurboTax program is active or not. The software may prevent you from accessing your tax records if you use a new computer or upgrade your present machine because a new key activation has been refused by Intuit. Save yourself a lot of grief and headaches and buy a different product from another company. This software essentially installs a virus on your machine...

1.0 out of 5 stars TaxCut Home & Business is a LOT cheaper!, February 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: TurboTax Business 2002 (CD-ROM)
I have purchased and used TurboTax Business and personal TurboTax for a number of years. This year, with the registration fiasco with the personal TurboTax product I decided to purchase TaxCut. It turns out that if you purchase TaxCut Home & Business ([$] list) you get software that does the SAME JOB as TurboTax Business. For an additional [$]/state you can get *ALL* forms for that state. This has saved me about [$] this year (I need several business state forms).

TaxCut business will NOT import data directly from QuickBooks, but for me the [$] difference in price is well worth the savings. Also, it seems that the TaxCut folks haven't used the fact that you're installing/using a product as an excuse to advertise all sorts of additional services to you.

At my own postage expense I had to return TurboTax Business 2002 to Intuit for a refund. I'm going to by a replacement copy, but I'm not happy about it.

I have been a user of Inutit products since quicken version 1.0.
I have been using their tax products for several years and am fairly literate with financials and accounting.
After reading the reviews posted on Amazon and elsewhere, I initially became quite concerned. I did further research, and learned all was not that bad.
I purchased and installed Turbo Tax for Business. Installation was seemless on a P4 1.5gz running XP Professional with a Lynksys firewall, Norton Internet Security and AntiVirus enabled.
Import of 2001 tax return perfect. Minor inconvenience because I use Quickbooks 2000, could not import financial data. Printed out income statement and balance sheet and manully entered data.
Both Federal and state and K1's generated correctly.
I did not use tech suppport - no idea of response time nor level of service.
Their copy protection scheme is still a little unclear to me, although everything I read indicated no compromise or breach in security of my data.
I am comfortable recommending the product.
