Book Description

April 8, 2008
The Intuitive Body draws on the principles of the non-aggressive Japanese martial art aikido and meditation to present a fresh approach to cultivating awareness, attention, and self-acceptance. Author Wendy Palmer shows readers through basic practice and partner exercises how to become more aware of the body and trust its innate wisdom. She introduces exercises from the Conscious Embodiment and Intuition Training program she pioneered, connection movement, meditation, and breathing. These exercises form a daily practice that can help the process of integration, of deepening and unifying the self, and learning to deal with fear and anger. Written in a direct yet nurturing style and based on the author’s many years of practice and teaching, this revised edition of The Intuitive Body contains new material on Conscious Embodiment movement and meditation practices. Also here are new chapters on advocating without aggressing and the wisdom of not knowing — embodying the qualities of dignity and integrity in everyday life. The book is ideal for readers who are already engaged in the process of becoming, as well as for those who are looking for ways to find the courage to begin.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“I’ve used the methods that I learned in conscious embodiment every single day, and they’ve quietly transformed the way that I deal with the challenges and opportunities that present themselves in my life—at work and at home.”
—Chris Grant, founder of 14A Conversations

“Working with conscious embodiment has had a direct and profound impact in both my personal and professional life. The ability to ‘center’ and ‘rebalance’ has been invaluable as I grow our business through uncharted waters. These new skills have played a key role in both my home and work success.”
—John L. Hall, Senior Vice President, Oracle University

"A useful, inspiring book for anyone exploring . . . embodied movement, energetic meditation, and intuitive knowledge.”
Yoga Journal

4.0 out of 5 stars INTERESTing..., February 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Intuitive Body: Discovering the Wisdom of Conscious Embodiment and Aikido (Paperback)
Sometimes even only one sentence or one paragraph in a book makes the whole read worthwhile to only one person...

I'm in the middle of a mid-life crisis (which means I'll live to be 120!) in which I have basically
lost interest in life (but not suicidally! and not without optimistic curiosity)...

Wendy Palmer writes --
"How can we cultivate our sense of interest to the point that it becomes a habit to be interested?
When we are not crowded in by thoughts of 'what if,' 'I hope that,' and 'if only.'
Instead we are poised, soft, and open to what will arise.
We are simply interested in life."

That may sound simplistically simple to you but the subsequent sub-chapters on
"The Fine Art Of Questioning," "The Buoyant State of Curiosoty,"
"The Don't-Know Mind" and especially
the entire following chapter on
"Not-Knowing" were, for lack of
a better way to say it -- of
invaluable "interest" to
this reader.
